Utkal University, established in 1943 and headquartered at Vani Vihar campus in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), has released advertisement Estt-1/1041-Vol(IV)/No. 5793 dated 18 May 2026 for regular faculty positions of Professor (including backlog vacancies) across 27 departments. Applications are open to Indian Citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) as per UGC eligibility criteria (UGC Notification 18 July 2018 and subsequent amendments). Who Can Apply?

You must satisfy UGC Notification 18 July 2018 norms for the post of Professor. Eligibility is either route A or route B:

Route A — Academic Route

  • An eminent scholar with a Ph.D. in the concerned / allied / relevant discipline, with high-quality published work and a minimum of 10 research publications (Clause 12) and a total research score of 120 as per UGC Regulation No. F.1-2/2017(EC/PS) dated 18 July 2018.
  • A minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in a university / college as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor, OR equivalent research experience at the University / National-level institutions with evidence of successfully guiding doctoral candidate(s).

Route B — Outstanding Professional Route

  • An outstanding professional with a Ph.D. in the relevant / allied / applied discipline from any academic institution (not included in A above) / industry, who has made significant contribution to the knowledge in the concerned discipline supported by documentary evidence, and has 10 years of experience.

Qualifying Marks at Master's Level

  • Minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade) at Master's level for direct recruitment.
  • 5% relaxation for SC / ST / OBC (Non-creamy Layer) / Differently-abled candidates (Blindness & low vision, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Locomotor disability, Autism, Intellectual disability, Specific learning disability, Mental illness, Multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness).
  • 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%) for Ph.D. holders who obtained their Master's degree prior to 19 September 1991.

Other Conditions

  • Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/SEBC) must submit valid caste certificate AND must be domiciles / permanent residents of the State of Odisha to avail reservation benefits.
  • The period spent on acquiring M.Phil / Ph.D. shall NOT be considered as research experience.
  • Publications in predatory / dubious journals will not be considered.

Age Limit

  • No minimum age mentioned in the notification.
  • Candidates above 60 years are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Present retirement age (superannuation) at Utkal University is 60 years.

Salary

  • Pay Scale: 7th CPC Pay Level-14 (entry pay Rs. 1,44,200 per month, going up to Rs. 2,18,200)
  • Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Government of Odisha rules
  • Pay and allowances will be as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on screening, scrutiny and interview as per UGC Notification 18 July 2018:

  1. Screening of Applications: Applications received by due date will be scrutinised.
  2. Display of Eligible/Ineligible List: The list of shortlisted and rejected applicants will be displayed on the University website.
  3. Calculation of Academic / Research Score: Based on UGC Regulations 2018, Appendix-II, Table 2 — covering research papers in peer-reviewed journals, books / monographs, MOOCs / e-content, Ph.D. supervision, projects, consultancy, patents, awards / fellowships and invited lectures.
  4. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview with a PPT covering brief biodata, subject domain strength, practical skills, student empowerment strategy, use of AI in pedagogy, funded research projects, consultancy research, and vision for the university and nation building.
  5. Holistic Assessment: The candidate is judged on cognitive domain (knowledge), psychomotor domain (experience & skill) and affective domain (response, confidence) including vision for Vikashit Odisha and Vikashit Bharat.

Note: No TA/DA will be paid for the interview. Eligibility shall be considered as on the closing date of online application submission.
