The Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board (TSLPRB) has released Notification No. 234/Rect./Rect.-3/2026 dated 29 July 2026 for direct recruitment of 7 Police Constable (Mechanic) and 20 Police Constable (Driver) posts in the Telangana Police Department. These are Stipendiary Cadet Trainee (SCT) posts, which means you go through paid training before getting appointed to the regular constable cadre. There is no Preliminary Written Test for these two technical posts — you go straight to the Physical Efficiency Test, unlike the regular PC Civil recruitment. Both posts are open only to male candidates.

Both posts carry the same SCT pay scale of Rs. 24,280 to Rs. 72,850. Reservation under OC, BC, SC, ST and EWS categories applies as per Telangana State Service Rules, along with special quotas for Home Guards, Children of Police Personnel (CPP), and NCC candidates.

Who Can Apply?

For Police Constable (Mechanic) - Post Code 35:

  • You must have passed SSC (10th) or an equivalent exam, along with an ITI Certificate in Auto Electrician, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic Diesel, or Fitter trade.
  • Only male candidates can apply for this post.

For Police Constable (Driver) - Post Code 36:

  • You must have passed Intermediate (12th) or its equivalent, OR SSC with an ITI Certificate in Auto Electrician, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic Diesel, or Fitter trade.
  • You must hold a valid Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle (HPMV) / Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving License as on the date of notification, and it must stay valid through your Driving Test.
  • Only male candidates can apply for this post.

You must produce all qualification certificates at the time of Certificate Verification. Candidates with higher qualifications than the ones prescribed are also eligible.

Age Limit

  • Police Constable (Mechanic): You should be between 18 and 22 years old as on 1 July 2026.
  • Police Constable (Driver): You should be between 21 and 25 years old as on 1 July 2026.
  • The Telangana Government has raised the upper age limit by 5 years for uniformed services including Police (GO Ms No. 87 dated 18-05-2026), on top of the limits above.
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST/BC/EWS candidates get 5 years extra; Ex-Servicemen get 3 years plus their length of Armed Forces service; NCC Instructors (minimum 6 months service) get 3 years plus their length of NCC service; Telangana Government employees get relaxation up to their length of regular service (max 5 years).
  • Home Guards with at least 360 days of continuous service in the last 2 years can apply up to 40 years for both posts.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 24,280 to Rs. 72,850 per month in the SCT pay scale, both during training and after regular appointment.
  • You will also get a stipend during Institutional Training as fixed by the Telangana Government, plus DA, HRA and other allowances as per state government rules.

Physical Standards

For Male Candidates (Both Posts):

  • 1600m Run: Must be completed within 7 minutes 15 seconds (9 minutes 30 seconds for Ex-Servicemen).
  • Height: Minimum 162 cm (160 cm for ST/Aboriginal Tribe candidates from notified Agency areas of Adilabad, Komarambheem-Asifabad, Mancherial, Nagarkurnool, Khammam, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, and Warangal districts).
  • Long Jump: Minimum 4 metres (3.50 metres for Ex-Servicemen) — qualifying only.
  • Shot Put (7.26 kg): Minimum 6 metres — qualifying only.

Your eyesight must be 6/6 in both eyes with no colour blindness, squint, or other eye defects.

Application Fee

  • The exact fee amount is shown on the TSLPRB online application portal based on the post(s) and category you select — it is not published as a fixed figure in the notification.
  • SC/ST candidates local to Telangana pay a concessional fee compared to OC/BC candidates.
  • If you apply for more than one TSLPRB notification within 3 months, you get a rebate of Rs. 50 per extra post (SC/ST local candidates) or Rs. 100 per extra post (other candidates).
  • Payment mode: Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or other modes available on the TSLPRB website.
  • Fee once paid is not refundable under any circumstances.

Selection Process

There is no Preliminary Written Test for these two technical posts. Selection happens in these stages:

  1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): 1600m run, followed by height measurement, long jump and shot put (qualifying).
  2. Trade Test (Mechanic post) or Driving Test (Driver post): 100 marks across multiple parameters; you need at least 50 marks to qualify.
  3. Written Examination: Technical objective paper of 200 questions for 200 marks in 3 hours, OMR-based, in English. Qualifying marks are 40% for OC/EWS, 35% for BC, and 30% for SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen.
  4. Certificate Verification: You must bring original documents plus two sets of photocopies.
  5. Medical Examination: Conducted at the District Headquarters Hospital.
  6. Induction Training: Final appointment to the regular post happens only after you complete training successfully.

Your final merit is based on your combined score in the Trade/Driving Test and the Written Examination.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair police department vehicles including engines, brakes, and electrical systems (Mechanic post)
  • Drive police vehicles safely for patrolling, VIP duty, and other assigned tasks (Driver post)
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance checks on department vehicles
  • Handle minor repairs and breakdowns during field duty
  • Follow traffic rules, road safety protocols, and department driving guidelines
  • Maintain vehicle logbooks, fuel records, and service history
  • Assist senior officers during law and order and other police duties as assigned
  • Report vehicle faults and maintenance needs promptly to the workshop in-charge
