About This Job

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai is hiring for 3 project-based posts under an archival initiative supported by a grant from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. The posts are Project Research Assistant, Project Research Associate and Project Consultant (Accounts), with a consolidated pay of up to Rs. 55,000 per month. TIFR Project Multi-Post Recruitment 2026 - 3 Posts

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), an autonomous institution of the Department of Atomic Energy and a Deemed University, has released Advertisement No. 2026/11 for 3 project posts under its archival project. All positions are based at TIFR, Mumbai. The Project Research Assistant and Project Research Associate posts are full-time, while the Project Consultant (Accounts) post is part-time. These are temporary, non-pensionable posts that may be renewed each year for up to three years based on performance.

Who Can Apply?

Project Research Assistant (Rs. 45,000/month)

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • Desirable: Experience in archives, museums or cultural institutions; familiarity with archival cataloguing and documentation; exposure to digitisation and database management; experience in oral history documentation.

Project Research Associate (Rs. 55,000/month)

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline of Science, Archival Studies, Library & Information Science, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • Desirable: 1-2 years' experience in archives, museums, libraries or cultural institutions; knowledge of digital archives, databases, metadata frameworks and digitisation workflows.

Project Consultant - Accounts (Rs. 30,000/month)

  • Graduate from a recognised University/Institute with an aggregate of 50% marks.
  • Must be a retired employee from Government / Semi-Government / Autonomous Body / PSU with relevant experience in Accounts/Finance.
  • Proficiency in word processing, database management and accounting procedures, plus working knowledge of computers and accounting applications.

Age Limit

  • Project Research Assistant: Maximum 32 years
  • Project Research Associate: Maximum 35 years
  • Project Consultant - Accounts: Maximum 62 years (retired employees)

Salary

  • Project Research Assistant: Rs. 45,000 per month (consolidated, including HRA)
  • Project Research Associate: Rs. 55,000 per month (consolidated, including HRA)
  • Project Consultant - Accounts: Rs. 30,000 per month (part-time, consolidated)

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam for any of the posts.

Responsibilities

  • Catalogue, document and digitise archival materials at TIFR
  • Assist in oral history projects including transcription and editing
  • Support collection management and archival exhibitions
  • Help with research for publications and institutional projects
  • Manage project-related financial work, accounts and budget tracking (Consultant - Accounts)
  • Process payments, invoices and prepare utilisation certificates (Consultant - Accounts)
  • Coordinate with the Accounts Section for audit and compliance

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in any discipline (Research Assistant); Bachelor's in Science/Archival/Library/Museum Studies (Research Associate); Graduate with 50% and retired Govt/PSU accounts experience (Consultant - Accounts)

Preferred Qualification

Experience in archives, museums, libraries, cataloguing, digitisation and database management

Required Skills

Research and analytical ability, archival documentation, digitisation, accounting procedures (for Consultant)

Age Limit

18 - 62 years

Salary & Compensation

Pay Scale

Consolidated pay including HRA: Rs. 45,000 (Research Assistant), Rs. 55,000 (Research Associate), Rs. 30,000 (Consultant - Accounts)
