Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has released a circular to fill 12 Chief Sanitary Inspector posts in the Health Department. Out of the total sanctioned strength, 50% posts are filled by departmental exam and 50% by promotion. These 12 vacancies are the departmental exam quota and are open only to existing SMC staff in the Sanitary Inspector cadre. If you already work at SMC and meet the experience rule, this is your chance to move up.

Who Can Apply?

This is a 100% internal departmental recruitment. Only current SMC employees can apply. You must meet one of these experience rules:

• 5 years of experience as a Sanitary Inspector, OR
• 7 years of experience as a Sanitary Sub Inspector

Computer knowledge (CCC): You must pass the CCC exam or hold a recognised CCC/CCC+ equivalent degree within 1 year of appointment, as per SMC rules. If you already have it, attach the certificate with your application.

Age Limit

• No age limit is mentioned, as this is an internal recruitment open only to serving SMC employees.

Salary

• Pay Scale: Rs. 9,500 - 10,500 (old scale), Pay Band Rs. 9,300 - 34,800, Grade Pay Rs. 4,600
• 7th Pay Matrix Level-8: Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 per month
• Plus DA, HRA and other allowances as per Surat Municipal Corporation rules

Selection Process

The Appointment Authority will decide the selection method based on the recruitment rules. Selection may include:

1. Written Test and/or Oral Interview — the exam centre, date and pattern will be announced on the SMC website and by SMS.
2. Document Verification: You must bring original certificates plus self-attested copies (experience, education, caste, EWS where applicable).

The final select list (waiting list) will be prepared by the Staff Selection Committee as per the cadre recruitment rules and roster.

How to Apply

1. Go to the SMC portal at suratmunicipal.gov.in and complete the One Time User Registration (email + mobile OTP).
2. Log in, fill the Personal Details (enter your current SMC regular employee number), Educational Qualification and Experience Details.
3. Upload your photo (max 150 KB) and signature (max 50 KB) in JPG/JPEG or PNG format.
4. Confirm and submit the application online before the last date.
5. Take a printout, attach all proofs and your latest salary slip, and send the hard copy through proper channel (your department/zone head approval) to the Administrative Officer (Recruitment Department) within 7 working days after the last date.

• Supervise sanitation, cleaning and solid waste management work across the assigned city zone
• Guide and monitor Sanitary Inspectors and field sanitation staff on daily duties
• Carry out food safety, hygiene and public health inspections of shops, markets and eateries
• Check drainage, garbage collection and pest control activities for proper coverage
• Handle public complaints about cleanliness and act on them quickly
• Prepare inspection reports and keep records of sanitation work and penalties
• Help run health and cleanliness awareness drives in the community
• Make sure sanitation rules and SMC by-laws are followed in the field
