Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is hiring 11 Consultant doctors (GDMO and Specialists) for its Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and Alloy Steels Plant (ASP) in West Bengal. SAIL Durgapur Steel Plant Consultant Doctor Recruitment 2026 - 11 Posts

Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and a Maharatna company, runs a 600-bedded multi-specialty hospital along with health centres for its employees and their families. To keep these running, DSP wants to engage 11 doctors as Consultants (GDMO and Specialists) for DSP and the nearby Alloy Steels Plant (ASP), Durgapur. There is no written exam — selection is only through a walk-in interview. The engagement is for 1 year at first and can be extended year by year up to a maximum of 3 years, with re-engagement possible. The role also allows private practice, as long as it does not clash with your duty hours at the plant hospital. This is a great fit for both experienced and recently retired medical professionals.

• GDMO (General Duty Medical Officer): 5 posts — needs MBBS
• Specialist (Surgery): 2 posts — needs MBBS + PG Degree in Surgery/General Surgery
• Specialist (Paediatrics): 2 posts — needs MBBS + PG Degree/Diploma in Paediatrics
• Specialist (Ophthalmology): 1 post — needs MBBS + PG Degree/Diploma in Ophthalmology
• Specialist (Orthopaedic): 1 post — needs MBBS + PG Degree/Diploma in Orthopaedics

Category-wise: Unreserved (UR) 6, ST 1, OBC-NCL 3, and EWS 1.

Who Can Apply?

For GDMO (Rs. 90,000/month)

• You need an MBBS degree from a recognised institute.

For Specialist posts (Rs. 1,20,000 to Rs. 1,60,000/month)

• You need MBBS plus a PG Degree or PG Diploma in the relevant speciality (Surgery, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, or Orthopaedics).

Other Requirements

• You must be registered with the MCI, NMC, or a State Medical Council, or hold a valid practitioner's licence.
• You must be an Indian national.
• Doctors who left SAIL, any other PSU, or a Government organisation through Voluntary Retirement cannot apply.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit: 69 years as on 1 July 2026 (the date the advertisement was issued).
• The engagement continues subject to a maximum age of 70 years.
• There is no minimum age, and retired doctors within the age limit are welcome to apply.

Salary

• GDMO (MBBS): Rs. 90,000 per month
• Specialist (MBBS + PG Diploma): Rs. 1,20,000 per month
• Specialist (MBBS + PG Degree): Rs. 1,60,000 per month
• This is a consolidated monthly amount for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week (48 hours a week). If you work fewer hours, the pay is adjusted accordingly.
• You also get medical benefits for self and spouse at DSP hospital, a CUG mobile connection, and 10 days of leave a year. No HRA is paid, but company accommodation may be given on a payment basis if available.
• Private practice is allowed (there is no Non-Practicing Allowance). Remember, this is a purely temporary engagement and does not create any right to a regular job at SAIL.

Application Fee

• There is no application fee for this walk-in interview.
• Note: OBC-NCL and EWS candidates must bring a category certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection happens in two simple steps:

1. Document Verification: A Verification Committee checks your eligibility and documents at the venue. Only eligible doctors move to the interview.
2. Walk-in Interview: You appear before the interview board. Doctors with relevant work experience get preference.

A discipline-wise and category-wise merit panel (in a 1:1 ratio) is prepared and stays valid for six months to fill posts if selected candidates do not join.

2. Keep your original documents ready with one set of self-attested photocopies.
3. Reach the walk-in venue on the correct date and reporting time. No online or postal application is accepted.
