The Sports Authority of India, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), Government of India, has released its Comprehensive Internship Policy for 2026. SAI is India's top sports body responsible for training athletes, running national sports programmes, and managing world-class sports infrastructure. This internship gives you 6 months of hands-on experience in sports administration, science, management, and technology.

Who Can Apply?

Nationality

• You must be an Indian National

Internship Roles & Qualification

• General Sports Management Internship — Masters/PhD in Sports Management, Physical Education, Public Administration, or allied sectors
• Legal Internship — PG Diploma in Sports Law, PhD in Legal Studies, or allied degrees
• Sports Infrastructure Internship — ME/MTech/PhD in Civil Engineering, M.Arch, Masters/PhD in Architecture or Urban Planning
• Event & Media Internship — BBA/MBA in Event Management, BA/MA in Mass Media, PR, Advertising, Communications (UG students eligible for events only)
• IT & Data Systems Internship — ME/MTech in IT/Computer Science, MCA, or allied engineering streams
• Sports Science Internship — Post-graduate residents or specialists in Sports Medicine, Physiotherapy, Physiology, Anthropometry, Biomechanics, Psychology, Nutrition, Strength & Conditioning, or M.Sc Sports Science / Masters in Physical Education

Note: Currently enrolled final-year UG students can apply only for the Event & Media Internship. PG students and research scholars are eligible for all roles.

Age Limit

• Minimum age: 20 years
• Preferred upper age: 25 years
• Age relaxation: May be given for postgraduate, doctoral, or research scholars, especially in specialized fields like legal, IT, sports science, or laboratory-based research
• SAI can grant relaxation on a case-to-case basis depending on the internship role, your profile, or project needs

Stipend

• PG-level interns: Rs. 20,000 per month
• UG-level interns (Events only): Rs. 10,000 per month
• Additional transport support for training/events and access to training/lab facilities and IT infrastructure
• Interns on event-based or outstation assignments may get enhanced allowances subject to approval
• Stipend is released under the HRDS Scheme through SAI

Selection Process

1. Scrutiny of Applications — SAI will verify your eligibility, academic qualifications, Statement of Purpose, and NOC
2. Order of Merit — Marks from 10th, 12th, and Graduation will be considered. An objective ranking criteria will be set by the Competent Authority
3. Notification of Results — Selected candidates will be informed through the official portal

Selection Committees will include senior officials, domain experts, and project leads. For event-based internships, selection may rely on your Statement of Purpose, experience, and recommendations.

How to Apply

2. Register as a new user if you have not already
3. Log in and fill out the online application form carefully
4. Upload your Statement of Purpose highlighting your motivation, goals, and expected outcomes
5. Upload your No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your college/university (if currently enrolled)
6. Make sure your application is complete and signed — incomplete applications will be rejected
7. Submit before the deadline

Important: You can apply for this internship only once per academic level (UG/PG/PhD). Repeat applications at the same level will be rejected.

Important Dates

• Batch Intake: Twice a year — December and June

• Handle operations related to Khelo India, Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), and National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs)
• Assist in organizing national and international sporting events, media coverage, and content creation for digital platforms
• Work on development of IT dashboards, MIS tools, digital solutions, and smart stadia management systems
• Prepare DPR documents, architectural plans, and monitor sports infrastructure development projects
• Follow research protocols in sports science including athlete assessment, biomechanics analysis, and nutrition planning
• Manage documentation, MoU drafting, RTI responses, and legal compliance for SAI's legal wing
• Monitor athlete training data and prepare weekly progress reports for your assigned Mentor Officer
