The High Court of Judicature at Patna has released Advertisement No. PHC/02/2026 dated 10 April 2026, inviting online applications for 48 Computer Operator-cum-Typist posts (Group-C). This includes 47 regular posts and 1 backlog post reserved for the Locomotor Disabled category. 15 out of 48 posts are horizontally reserved for women candidates (35%). The selected candidates will be placed on probation for one year and will work in Patna.

Who Can Apply?

  • Educational Qualification: Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or Institution.
  • Computer Qualification: Diploma or Certificate of at least a 6-month course in Computer Application from a recognised institution.
  • Typing Proficiency: Certificate in typing with a speed of 40 words per minute in English and 30 words per minute in Hindi from a recognised institution.
  • All qualifications must be completed as on 01 January 2026.
  • Nationality: Indian citizen (or Tibetan refugee settled before 01.01.1972, or person of Indian origin from specified countries with eligibility certificate).
  • Domicile: Age relaxation and horizontal reservation benefits are available only to permanent residents of Bihar. Bihar domicile certificate required at document verification.

Preferential Qualification

  • Candidates who have served in the Territorial Army for a minimum of 2 years, or
  • Candidates holding a 'B' Certificate of NCC — given preference at the time of interview (other things being equal).

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years (you must not be born after 01.01.2008)
  • Unreserved / EWS — Male: Maximum 37 years (born not earlier than 02.01.1989)
  • Unreserved / EWS — Female: Maximum 40 years (born not earlier than 02.01.1986)
  • BC / EBC — Male & Female: Maximum 40 years (born not earlier than 02.01.1986)
  • SC — Male & Female: Maximum 42 years (born not earlier than 02.01.1984)
  • Age reference date: 01 January 2026
  • Locomotor Disabled candidates get an additional 10 years relaxation over their category's upper age limit.
  • Candidates already employed in Central or State Government get 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit.
  • Note: Age limit does not apply to candidates already serving in the High Court establishment or placed on deputation.

Salary

  • Pay Level: Level-4 of the 7th Pay Revision Commission (7th PRC) pay matrix
  • Salary range: Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 per month

Selection Process

Selection is done in up to 3 stages:

  1. Preliminary Test (if conducted): Held only if the number of applicants is very high. Covers General Awareness (15 marks), English Language and Grammar (20 marks), and Computer Awareness (15 marks) — total 50 marks in 30 minutes. Minimum qualifying marks: 20. Top 10x candidates per category move to the Written Test. Marks in this test do NOT count in the final merit list.
  2. Written Test — Part A (MCQ Based, 50 marks, 30 minutes): Objective questions on English Language & Grammar (15 marks), Hindi Language & Grammar (10 marks), Computer Awareness (15 marks), and Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude (10 marks). Minimum qualifying marks: 20. No negative marking. Question paper available in both English and Hindi (except the English Language section).
  3. Written Test — Part B: English Computer Typing Test (100 marks, 10 minutes): You need to type 400 words in 10 minutes (40 WPM). Minimum accuracy required: 90%.
  4. Written Test — Part C: Hindi Computer Typing Test (100 marks, 10 minutes): You need to type 300 words in 10 minutes (30 WPM). Minimum accuracy required: 85%. Keyboard layout: Remington Gail, Font: Mangal.
  5. Interview (10 marks): Top 3x candidates per vacancy (category-wise) are called. Minimum qualifying marks: 3. Attendance is mandatory — absent candidates will not be included in the final merit list.

Final merit is based on total marks in Written Test (Part A + B + C) + Interview = 260 marks. You must qualify all parts individually.
