The High Court of Judicature at Patna has released Advertisement No. PHC/03/2026 inviting online applications for 68 Ex-Cadre Assistant (Group-C) posts in its establishment. Selected candidates will join on probation for one year before being confirmed in service. 35% of posts are reserved for women and 4% for Locomotor Disabled candidates under horizontal reservation, on top of the usual SC/ST/EBC/BC/EWS vertical reservation. The category-wise reservation break-up is 16% for SC, 1% for ST, 18% for EBC, 12% for BC, and 10% for EWS candidates, as per Bihar Government norms. Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Computer Qualification: Diploma or Certificate of at least 6 months in Computer Application from a recognized institution.
  • Nationality: You must be a citizen of India (with limited exceptions for Tibetan refugees and specific categories of Indian-origin migrants who hold an eligibility certificate).
  • Preference: Candidates with 2+ years of Territorial Army service or an NCC 'B' Certificate get preference at the interview stage, other things being equal.
  • All eligibility conditions are counted as on 1 January 2026.

Age Limit

  • You should be at least 18 years old as on 1 January 2026 (not born after 01.01.2008).
  • Unreserved & EWS (Male): up to 37 years.
  • Unreserved & EWS (Female): up to 40 years.
  • BC / EBC (Male & Female): up to 40 years.
  • SC / ST (Male & Female): up to 42 years.
  • Age Relaxation: 5 extra years for candidates already employed under the Central Government or Government of Bihar; 10 extra years for Locomotor Disabled candidates on top of their category relaxation.
  • Category-based age relaxation applies only to permanent residents of Bihar. There is no upper age limit for candidates already serving in the High Court establishment, subordinate courts, or on deputation.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 per month under Level-4 of the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix.
  • You will also get usual allowances as admissible under the Patna High Court Officers and Staff (Recruitment, Appointment, Promotion and Other Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 2021.

Selection Process

The Ex-Cadre Assistant Recruitment Examination, 2026 has 3 main stages, plus an optional shortlisting round:

  1. Preliminary / Screening Test (held only if applications are very high): 50 MCQs for 50 marks in 60 minutes, covering General English, Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. Minimum qualifying marks: 20. These marks do not count toward final merit.
  2. Written Test: 100 MCQs for 100 marks in 90 minutes, covering General English, Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, General Hindi, and Computer Awareness. Minimum qualifying marks: 40.
  3. Computer Proficiency Test: 50 marks in 30 minutes, testing Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Internet Proficiency. Qualifying in nature (minimum 20 marks) — does not count toward final merit.
  4. Interview: 10 marks, minimum qualifying marks 3.

There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer in the Preliminary and Written Tests. Your final merit is based only on your Written Test and Interview marks. Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness questions are set in both English and Hindi.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the Patna High Court recruitment notice board at patnahighcourt.gov.in and open the Ex-Cadre Assistant application link.
  2. Register with your basic details and a valid, active email ID.
  3. Fill in the online application form carefully — no changes are allowed after final submission.
  4. Choose up to 3 preferred examination cities, in order of preference.
  5. Upload your photograph, signature, and relevant certificates.
  6. Pay the examination fee online.
  7. Submit the form and save a printout along with your e-Admit Card (when issued) for future reference.
  8. Carry a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, or Driving Licence) along with your Admit Card to the examination centre — mobile phones and smart watches are not allowed inside.

Admit cards will be issued only through the official website of the High Court — they will not be sent to candidates individually. There is no provision for re-evaluation or re-checking of your answer sheet or score. You must also disclose any criminal case, FIR, or departmental proceeding pending against you; concealment of such facts can lead to cancellation of your candidature, even after appointment.
