NIT Tiruchirappalli is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or Project Associate-I (PA-I) for an ANRF-funded research project in its Chemical Engineering department. If you have a B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, you can apply by email and Google Form. NIT Tiruchirappalli has released a notification to hire a JRF or Project Associate-I for the Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant (PMECRG) project "Next-Generation Molecular Dynamics Study to Elucidate Nucleation and Crystallization Mechanisms in Gas Storage Materials" under Principal Investigator Dr. Nandlal Pingua, Department of Chemical Engineering. You will work on Molecular Dynamics simulations, AI/ML-driven materials research, and gas storage material design using high-performance computing. The post is purely temporary and can run for up to 3 years, and it comes with a chance to register for a regular PhD programme at NIT Trichy.

Who Can Apply?

For JRF (Rs. 37,000-42,000/month + HRA):

  • You need a B.E./B.Tech (First Class, minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a closely related discipline, along with a valid GATE score.
  • An M.E./M.Tech (First Class) in the same fields is also accepted. Preference goes to candidates with a valid GATE qualification.

For PA-I (Rs. 30,000-33,000/month + HRA):

  • You need an M.E./M.Tech (First Class, minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Computational Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, AI & ML, or Data Science.
  • A B.E./B.Tech (First Class) in a relevant discipline may also be considered. GATE/NET is preferred but not mandatory for this category.

Essential Skills: Experience with LAMMPS, Python, Linux, and High-Performance Computing (HPC); knowledge of Molecular Dynamics simulations, molecular modeling, and atomistic simulations; understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics; familiarity with AI/ML techniques; basic programming in Python, Matlab, Bash, Fortran, or C/C++; and good scientific writing and communication skills in English.

Desirable (not mandatory): experience in Monte Carlo simulation or Density Functional Theory (DFT), knowledge of Materials Studio, VMD, or Ovito, data analysis using Matlab/Python/Numpy/Pandas/Matplotlib, and publications in SCI-indexed journals.

Age Limit

  • For JRF: you should be under 32 years old as on the closing date of the advertisement.
  • For PA-I: you should be under 35 years old as on the closing date of the advertisement.
  • Age Relaxation: As per Government of India norms.

Salary

  • JRF (GATE qualified): Rs. 37,000 per month + HRA for the first two years, rising to Rs. 42,000 per month + HRA in the third year on satisfactory performance.
  • PA-I (Non-GATE): Rs. 30,000 per month + HRA for the first two years, rising to Rs. 33,000 per month + HRA in the third year.
  • You will also get the chance to register for a regular PhD programme at NIT Trichy if you meet the PhD eligibility criteria.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

NIT Trichy will select candidates through a single stage:

  1. Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be intimated by email, and the interview is conducted in offline mode. Your original documents will be verified before the interview, and you must submit one self-attested copy of every document. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

If you are found unsuitable after selection, NIT Trichy reserves the right to cancel the fellowship at any point, and an offer of fellowship does not entitle you to any right of absorption at the institute.
