Educational Qualification

  • You need a Ph.D. in Education with a consistently good academic record.
  • You must also have an M.Ed. degree.
  • Your UG or PG degree should be in one of these areas: Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Life Sciences, Bioscience or allied), Mathematics, Social Sciences (History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology or allied), Languages (English, Hindi, Malayalam), or Commerce or allied subjects.

Experience

  • Assistant Professor Grade II (Pay Level 10): No experience required - freshers with a Ph.D. can apply.
  • Assistant Professor Grade I (Pay Level 12): You need 3 years of experience after Ph.D., or 6 years of total teaching and research experience in a reputed academic institute, R&D lab, or relevant industry, with 20 cumulative essential credit points.

Salary

  • Assistant Professor Grade II (Pay Level 10): Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
  • Assistant Professor Grade I (Pay Level 12): Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
  • You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.
  • These pay levels follow the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix used across all NITs.

You pay a non-refundable registration fee plus a processing fee for each post you apply for, online.

  • General / OBC-NCL / EWS: Rs. 500 registration + Rs. 2,000 processing = Rs. 2,500
  • SC / ST / PwBD / Female candidates: Rs. 500 registration + No processing fee = Rs. 500

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam. Selection is based on your academic record, credit points, and interview:

  1. Online Application Screening: Your application, qualifications, and claimed credit points are checked against the documents you upload.
  2. Credit Point Evaluation: Your research projects, journal and conference publications, Ph.D. guidance, sponsored and consultancy projects, books, teaching load, and administrative roles are scored using the institute's credit point system (as per Schedule E of the NIT Statutes). For the Grade I post, you need 20 cumulative essential credit points along with your experience.
  3. Department Selection / Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for the selection process by the Department of Education.

Note: If you applied and were shortlisted in the Department of Education in the last six months (under Notification NITC/P03/456/FR/EDN/2026 or NITC/P02/456/FR/SD/PwBD/2026) for the same post and pay level, you cannot apply again for that same post.
