NIA Scientific Posts Recruitment 2026

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has issued a circular inviting nominations from eligible government officers for various Scientific posts on deputation (ISTC) basis. NIA is India's central counter-terrorism law enforcement agency responsible for investigating and prosecuting offences that affect national sovereignty. These positions are critical for NIA's forensic, cyber, and scientific investigation capabilities. Only officers already serving in Central/State Government, PSUs, or autonomous institutions are eligible — this is not a fresh recruitment open to the general public.

Who Can Apply?

These posts are open only to officers already serving under the Government of India. You must be working in one of the following organisations:

  • Central Government departments or offices
  • State Governments or Union Territory Administrations
  • Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)
  • Universities or recognised Research Institutions
  • Semi-Government, Statutory or Autonomous Organisations

Educational Qualification by Post

  • Technical Forensic Psychologist: Master's Degree in Criminology or Clinical Psychology from a recognised university, plus 3 years of experience in applied Psychology or Criminology/Crime Investigation
  • Finger Print Expert: M.Sc. in any Science subject or M.Sc. in Forensic Science; or B.Sc. with Chemistry as one of the subjects, plus 3 years of experience in fingerprint development and identification in a laboratory
  • Explosive Expert: Master's Degree in Chemistry or M.Sc. in Forensic Science (with Chemistry at B.Sc. level), plus 5 years of experience in examination of explosives and firearms
  • Cyber Forensic Examiner: B.E./B.Tech in Computer Engineering/Computer Technology, or Master's in Computer Application/Computer Science/Information Technology, or M.Tech in Computer Science/IT from a recognised university
  • Crime Scene Assistant: Master's Degree in Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, or Forensic Science from a recognised university
  • Photographer: Bachelor's Degree from a recognised university, plus a Diploma in Photography from a recognised institution

Service Eligibility

  • You must be holding an analogous post on a regular basis in your parent cadre/department
  • The deputation is on ISTC (Immediate Short Term Contract) basis

Salary

  • Technical Forensic Psychologist, Finger Print Expert, Explosive Expert, Cyber Forensic Examiner: Pay Level 10 — Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month
  • Crime Scene Assistant, Photographer: Pay Level 7 — Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 per month
  • Plus Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and other allowances as per Central Government rules
  • Deputation allowance is also admissible as per Government of India rules

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

  1. Screening of Applications: Nominations received through proper channel will be reviewed for eligibility based on service record and qualification
  2. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates' service records, ACRs/APARs for the last 5 years, and integrity certificates will be verified
  3. Interview (if required): Candidates may be called for an interview at NIA HQ, New Delhi
  4. Final Selection: Based on merit and suitability as assessed by the selection committee

Responsibilities

  • Examine digital devices, data, and cyber evidence as part of NIA's criminal investigations
  • Analyse fingerprints, explosive residues, or forensic samples to support case investigations
  • Prepare detailed scientific examination reports and present findings in court when required
  • Assist investigating officers with technical and scientific analysis at crime scenes
  • Maintain proper chain of custody for all evidence collected and examined
  • Coordinate with forensic laboratories and external scientific agencies for complex case work
  • Document photography and visual evidence in support of field investigations

Minimum Qualification

Master's Degree or B.E./B.Tech in relevant discipline (varies by post)

Preferred Qualification

Experience in forensic/cyber/explosives field as specified per post
