About This Job

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is hiring 21 Public Prosecutors (PP) on deputation basis, including short-term contract. You need a Bachelor's Degree in Law with 7 years of practice as an Advocate in criminal cases. The salary is Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month (Level-10, 7th CPC). NCB Public Prosecutor Recruitment 2026 — 21 Posts

The Narcotics Control Bureau is India's apex drug law enforcement agency, established under the NDPS Act, 1985. NCB is now filling up 21 existing vacant posts of Public Prosecutor at its Headquarters, Regional Offices, and Zonal Offices across India. This is a great opportunity for experienced Law Officers and Advocates who want to serve in India's fight against drug trafficking.

Who Can Apply?

Officers from Central Government, Central Government agencies (like NIA, CBI, ED), Public Prosecutors of State Governments, or officers from Autonomous Organizations, Statutory Organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, recognized universities, or recognized research institutions can apply on deputation (including short-term contract).

Eligibility Criteria

You need to meet both (a) and (b) below:

(a) Service Requirements (any one)

  • Holding an analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre or department, OR
  • 2 years of regular service in posts at Level-9 of the Pay Matrix or equivalent, OR
  • 4 years of regular service in posts at Level-8 of the Pay Matrix or equivalent

(b) Educational Qualification and Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized university
  • 7 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases

Desirable:

  • 3 years of experience as Advocate in conducting NDPS cases

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 56 years on the closing date of receipt of applications (30 April 2026)
  • The maximum period of deputation (including short-term contract) shall not exceed 3 years

Salary

  • Pay Scale: PB-3 (Rs. 15,600-39,100) + Grade Pay Rs. 5,400 (pre-revised)
  • 7th CPC Pay Level: Level-10 of the Pay Matrix
  • Basic Pay Range: Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance, HRA, Transport Allowance, and other allowances as per Central Government rules
  • Deputation terms governed by DoPT OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt. (Pay II) dated 17.06.2010

Responsibilities

  • Handle prosecution of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases on behalf of NCB in courts
  • Prepare and present arguments, evidence, and legal submissions in criminal cases related to drug trafficking
  • Work closely with NCB investigation teams to build strong prosecution cases
  • Keep track of all pending cases, court dates, and case progress across assigned courts
  • Assist senior legal officers in drafting legal opinions, appeals, and revisions
  • Follow up on bail applications, anticipatory bail hearings, and other urgent court matters
  • Manage case records, maintain documentation, and prepare case status reports
  • Monitor changes in narcotics laws and judicial precedents relevant to NCB prosecutions

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized university with 7 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases

Preferred Qualification

3 years experience as Advocate in conducting NDPS cases

Required Skills

Criminal litigation, court prosecution, knowledge of NDPS Act
