This opportunity is open only to serving Central Government, State Government or Union Territory officials with relevant experience in Communication or Information Technology, along with 10+2 in Science (Maths, Physics, Chemistry). Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Surveillance Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 27 Posts

The Narcotics Control Bureau, working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India's central agency for fighting drug trafficking and enforcing the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. It has issued a vacancy circular to fill 27 existing Surveillance Assistant posts (Group-C, Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial). This is an open, continuous vacancy circular — NCB keeps accepting complete applications every month and reviews them against the vacancies available at that time, instead of closing after a single date. The 27 vacancies notified are provisional and can go up or down as NCB's staffing needs change, so it is worth applying even if you are unsure of the exact current opening in your zone of interest.

If selected, you could be posted to any of NCB's offices — Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Dehradun, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore, Jaipur and Jodhpur, among others, as you are liable to serve anywhere in India.

Who Can Apply?

There are two service routes to becoming eligible, along with the educational qualification below. You need to meet one of the routes and the qualification requirement.

  • Government Service: You must be a serving Central Government, State Government or Union Territory official — this is not a direct recruitment drive for the general public.
  • Eligibility Route 1: You are holding an analogous post on a regular basis with at least 3 years of experience in Communication or Information Technology.
  • Eligibility Route 2: You have 5 years of regular service in Level-3 of the Pay Matrix (Rs. 21,700-69,100), along with 5 years of experience in Communication or Information Technology.
  • Qualification: You must have passed 10+2 in Science (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) from a recognized Board or University.

If selected, your initial deputation tenure will ordinarily last up to 3 years, extendable to a maximum of 7 years based on your suitability and performance, as per Department of Personnel & Training guidelines. No further extension is granted beyond this period.

Age Limit

  • You should not be more than 56 years old as on the closing date of receipt of applications.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will draw pay in Level-4 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, ranging from Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 per month (pre-revised Grade Pay Rs. 2,400), in Group-'C' Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial cadre.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as admissible to Central Government employees.
  • Working with NCB on deputation gives you hands-on exposure to surveillance and communication technology used in anti-narcotics operations.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Since this is a deputation posting meant for experienced government officials, NCB does not conduct a written exam or interview for these vacancies. Your service record, technical experience and eligibility documents matter far more than exam scores here. You get selected purely through document screening:

  1. Application Screening: Your Curriculum Vitae, APAR gradings, Integrity Certificate, Vigilance Clearance and other documents get checked against the eligibility criteria.
  2. Selection Committee Review: NCB's Selection Committee assesses eligible applications and shortlists candidates for the 27 posts based on service record and experience.
  3. Cadre Clearance: Your parent department confirms you will be relieved to join NCB on deputation if you are selected.

How to Apply

Since this is a deputation posting, you cannot apply directly online like a regular government exam — your application has to be routed through your current employer. Make sure every document is complete before you submit, since incomplete applications are usually rejected at the screening stage. Here is how the process works:

  1. Get the application (Curriculum Vitae) proforma attached to the vacancy circular from your establishment or NCB.
  2. Fill in your service details, qualifications and experience carefully.
  3. Attach APAR gradings for the last 5 years, duly attested.
  4. Attach an Integrity Certificate, Vigilance Clearance Certificate and a major/minor penalty statement for the last 10 years.
  5. Get a Cadre Clearance Certificate from your department confirming you will join NCB on deputation if selected.
  6. Forward your complete application through proper channel to the Additional Director (P&A), Narcotics Control Bureau (HQ), August Kranti Bhawan, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi-110066.

Important Dates

  • Notification Date: 29 June 2026
  • Application Mode: Rolling / continuous — applications reaching NCB by the last day of any month are considered for that month's selection
  • Applications Open Until: 15 October 2026, or until all 27 vacancies are filled, whichever comes first

Because this circular stays open for months at a time, it is a good idea to check with your establishment or personnel section regularly so your application is not delayed once you decide to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain surveillance and communication equipment
  • Monitor communication systems used in anti-narcotics operations
  • Support technical teams during intelligence-gathering operations
  • Maintain logs and records of surveillance activities
  • Assist in installation and troubleshooting of IT and communication devices
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive operational information
