The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is hiring 22 Pilots on a regular basis under Advertisement No. DR-17/2026 dated 21 April 2026. Mumbai Port Authority Pilot Recruitment 2026 — 22 Posts

The Mumbai Port Authority's General Administration Department invites applications from candidates fulfilling the prescribed maritime qualification and experience for filling up the post of Pilot on regular basis. The work involves piloting of vessels, berthing of vessels in the docks, posting on dredgers, and working on VTS as Supervisor. Initial appointment will be as "Trainee Pilot" till successful completion of training and issuance of Pilot license by the Competent Authority.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • You must hold a Certificate of Competency as Master of Foreign Going Ship issued by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, OR an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of Shipping.
  • If you are an Indian citizen with a foreign Certificate of Competency recognized by India, you must acquire a relevant endorsement from the D. G. Shipping.

Experience

  • One year post-qualification experience as Master / Chief Officer of a foreign going ship.

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit: 40 years for regular appointment.
  • SC / ST relaxation: 5 years.
  • OBC relaxation: 3 years.
  • Existing major Port employees: Upper age limit is 55 years (per Regulation 9 of MbPT Employees RSP Regulations, 2010).
  • Ex-servicemen: Age relaxation as per Central Government orders issued from time to time.

Salary

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 70,000 – 2,00,000 (IDA pattern linked to Industrial DA).
  • House Rent Allowance: 27% of Basic Pay.
  • Cafeteria allowance: 35% of Basic Pay.
  • Annual increment: 3%.
  • Approximate gross at minimum of scale: Rs. 1,45,000 per month.
  • Other benefits: leave, medical aid for self and dependent family, advances for purchase of house and car. Residential quarters available on license fee (if availed, HRA is deducted).
  • Selected candidates will be governed by the New Contributory Pension Scheme.

Responsibilities

  • Pilot vessels safely into and out of Mumbai Port harbour and approach channels.
  • Handle berthing and unberthing of vessels at docks under prevailing weather and tide conditions.
  • Take posting on dredgers and supervise dredging operations as required.
  • Work on the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) as Supervisor when on rostered duty.
  • Maintain a 24-hour on/off duty pattern and shift-based work for berthing or dredging assignments.
  • Follow safety, navigation, and pilotage rules of Mumbai Port Authority and the Director General of Shipping.
  • Coordinate with tug masters, signal stations, and harbour control on vessel movements.
  • Keep accurate pilotage logs and incident records as per port regulations.
