About This Job

MKU JRF Recruitment 2026 - ANRF Black Carbon Soil Analysis Project

Madurai Kamaraj University, one of Tamil Nadu's premier state universities with over 53 years of academic excellence, is hiring a Junior Research Fellow for a cutting-edge environmental science project. The project is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India, and will be carried out under the Department of Bioenergy, School of Energy, Environment and Natural Resources. This is an excellent opportunity for postgraduate science students to gain hands-on research experience in climate science and carbon accounting.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

  • M.Sc. degree with First Class in Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, Agricultural Science, or other equivalent degree
  • Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA from a recognized university
  • Preference will be given to NET qualified candidates

Fellowship / Salary

  • Rs. 37,000 per month (1st and 2nd year) as per ANRF guidelines
  • Rs. 40,700 per month (3rd year, if upgraded to SRF)
  • HRA: 10% of fellowship amount, as applicable

Note: The appointment is purely temporary and co-terminates with the project.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the spatio-temporal spectral analysis of Black Carbon in soil profiles under the guidance of the Principal Investigator
  • Collect and process soil samples from designated field sites for carbon accounting research
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments used for spectral analysis and soil characterization
  • Prepare research reports, data analysis summaries, and contribute to scientific publications
  • Follow standard research protocols and maintain accurate records of all experiments and observations
  • Work on data interpretation related to climate-smart land management strategies
  • Assist in literature review and preparation of project progress reports for ANRF

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

M.Sc. with First Class (60% or 6.5 CGPA) in Environmental Science / Physics / Chemistry / Atmospheric Science / Agricultural Science or equivalent from a recognized university. NET qualified candidates preferred.

Preferred Qualification

UGC NET / CSIR NET qualified

There is no written exam for this JRF position. The selection will be based on:
