Sahitya Akademi Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview
Sahitya Akademi, the National Academy of Letters, is recruiting editorial, library, translation, publication, programme, clerical, driving and support staff through one direct-recruitment notice. The Akademi works under the Ministry of Culture and promotes literature in twenty-four recognised Indian languages through books, awards, grants, events and international literary exchanges. This drive serves its Head Office and regional or sub-offices, so applicants can choose work ranging from specialist language roles to office support.
Posts and Disciplines
- Administration and editorial: Deputy Secretary General-Admin and Assistant Editor roles at the New Delhi Head Office.
- Library and translation: Senior Library and Information Assistants in Mumbai and Kolkata, plus a Junior Translation Officer in New Delhi.

Post-wise Duties
Administration and Editorial Roles
The Deputy Secretary will guide administration and institutional literary activity, while the Assistant Editor will handle manuscripts through editing and production. Both roles need sound judgement, language awareness and coordination with writers, staff and partner institutions.
Library and Translation Roles
Library staff will organise collections, help readers find material and maintain computer-based records. The translation officer will work between Hindi and English on literary and administrative text, checking terminology, grammar and meaning carefully.
Publication and Programme Roles
These posts support printing, book production, proofreading, literary programmes and office procedures. You may coordinate vendors or events, track material through production, and ensure that published work is accurate and ready on schedule.
Clerical, Stenography and Transport Roles
Clerical and stenography staff will prepare records, correspondence and typed material, while the rider and driver roles support official movement and basic vehicle care. Multi-Tasking Staff will provide day-to-day operational support across office functions.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Separate applications: If you want to apply for more than one post, send a separate form and fee for each post.
- Transfer liability: A selected employee can be transferred to any Sahitya Akademi office in India.
- Government employees: Applicants already working in government, autonomous bodies or public-sector organisations should apply through the proper channel or produce an NOC.
- Shortlisting: Only shortlisted applicants will be called for the relevant test or interview, and the Akademi may set additional shortlisting criteria when applications are numerous.
- Travel costs: No TA or DA is payable for attending a written test, skill test or interview.

Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Post-dependent: Class 10, Class 12, bachelor's degree, library/printing/publishing qualification, or postgraduate degree with specified skills and experience.
Preferred Qualification
Post-dependent preferences include research or doctoral work in literature, postgraduate study, journalism, Indian-language knowledge, office-procedure knowledge, and cycling/local-area knowledge.
Required Skills
Post-dependent skills include editing, Indian languages, library software, Hindi-English translation, printing and publishing, event organisation, computer applications, shorthand, typing, driving, and basic vehicle repair.
Age Limit
18 - 50 years (as on 21 Sep 2026)

Exam Pattern
Most posts use a written test of 100 marks, and you will get 2 hours. The paper has an objective first part and a descriptive second part, with the exact split depending on the post.
Level 6 and Specialist Posts
- Part I: 50 marks, including 30 General Studies/General Knowledge questions and 5 questions each from Hindi, English, Computer and Quantitative Aptitude
- Part II: 50 descriptive marks in the relevant field, such as Library Science, translation and language proficiency, publication and printing, programmes, editing, or proofreading
Messenger, Driver, Junior Clerk and MTS Posts
- Part I: 60 marks, including 40 General Studies/General Knowledge questions and 5 questions each from Hindi Grammar, English Grammar, Computer and Quantitative Aptitude
- Part II: 40 descriptive marks covering essay, letter, English comprehension, and notice or advertisement writing
Negative Marking: There is no negative marking in the objective part. Each correct objective answer carries 1 mark.
Skill Tests: Stenographer Grade-II has a qualifying shorthand and typing test; Junior Clerk has a qualifying typing test; Messenger cum Rider and Van Driver have a driving skill test.
Interview Posts: Deputy Secretary General-Admin and Assistant Editor are selected through interview after scrutiny and shortlisting.
