Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has released recruitment notification no. MCL/HQ/Recruitment/Open/2026/311 dated 16 April 2026 for 500 Trainee posts in the Electrical & Mechanical wing. This is a direct open recruitment under the NCWA-XI wage agreement. No interview is held — selection is purely through a Computer Based Test (CBT). Both fresh Diploma holders and ITI-qualified candidates with mining permits can apply.

Who Can Apply?

For Assistant Foreman (Electrical) (Trainee) T&S Gr-C:

  • Qualification: Diploma in Electrical Engineering (minimum 3-year course, AICTE approved) OR Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (AICTE approved).

For Technician (Electrician) (Trainee) Cat-III:

  • Basic Education: Matric (Class 10) pass from any recognised Board.
  • Trade Certificate: ITI in Electrician trade (NCVT/SCVT, 2-year course) with minimum 1 year of training / on-the-job training / on-the-job practical experience.
  • Permit Required: LT Permit (for Mines) under IE Rules OR 440-550 Volt Mining Parts Permit issued by a competent authority.

Age Limit

  • You must be at least 18 years old as on 28 May 2026.
  • Maximum age: 30 years for UR and EWS candidates (as on 28 May 2026).
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation (up to 33 years).
  • SC / ST: 5 years relaxation (up to 35 years).
  • Ex-Servicemen: Actual period of defence service + 3 years relaxation.
  • PwBD — Assistant Foreman post only: UR/EWS up to 40 years, OBC up to 43 years, SC/ST up to 45 years.
  • Departmental Candidates (CIL & subsidiaries): No upper age limit (provided they meet the required qualification).
  • Note: In all cases (except departmental candidates), maximum age at cut-off date must not exceed 56 years.

Salary

  • Assistant Foreman (Electrical) (Trainee) T&S Gr-C: Rs. 47,330.25 per month (as per NCWA-XI).
  • Technician (Electrician) (Trainee) Cat-III: Rs. 1,583.32 per day during the training period.
  • In addition to basic pay, you will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per National Coal Wage Agreement-XI (NCWA-XI) and company rules.
  • Career Progression: After successful training and obtaining the required electrical permit, Technicians can be regularised as Electrician Cat-IV. Assistant Foreman can progress to T&S Grade-B on obtaining a valid mine electrical permit.

  • SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen / Female candidates / Employees of CIL & subsidiaries: No fee.

Selection Process

Selection is through a Computer Based Test (CBT) only. There is no personal interview.

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): 100 objective (MCQ) questions for 100 marks. Part A — 20 questions on General Awareness & Aptitude (1 mark each). Part B — 80 questions on Technical Knowledge (1 mark each). No negative marking. Bilingual paper (Hindi and English). Time duration will be announced on the MCL website.
  2. Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS: 45 out of 100 | OBC (NCL): 40 out of 100 | SC/ST: 35 out of 100.
  3. Document Verification: Top candidates shortlisted in 1:3 ratio (3 candidates per vacancy) based on CBT merit will be called for document verification.
  4. Medical Examination (IME): Shortlisted candidates must pass the Initial Medical Examination at a company-nominated hospital. Appointment is subject to being declared medically fit for mine employment.

If the CBT is held in multiple shifts, normalisation of scores will be done using the formula: Xn = (S2/S1)*(X – Xav) + Yav.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and carry out electrical maintenance work in coal mine areas and surface installations
  • Inspect, test, and repair electrical equipment including motors, switchgear, and distribution panels
  • Follow safety rules and IE Rules for operating LT/HT electrical systems in mines
  • Maintain daily records of electrical equipment, breakdowns, and maintenance activities
  • Assist senior engineers in executing electrical projects and upgrades at the mine site
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and DGMS guidelines for mine electrical safety
  • Report faults, unsafe conditions, and incidents to the supervisory team promptly

Diploma in Electrical Engineering (3-year, AICTE) for Asst Foreman; Class 10 + ITI Electrician (NCVT/SCVT) + LT Permit for Technician
