Kalakshetra Tutor (Music) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Kalakshetra Foundation, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is hiring a Tutor (Music) for its Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts (RDCFA) in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. It is a regular Group C direct recruitment for an unreserved post, paid on the Tamil Nadu Government VII Pay Commission scale rather than the central pay matrix.

This is a performing and teaching job in Carnatic music. Besides taking practical and theory classes, you are expected to accompany Kalakshetra's dance performances and dance dramas, so experience playing or singing for Bharatanatyam is a real advantage. You must be able to read and write music notation.

Being a B-High graded artiste of All India Radio or knowing a South Indian language will help your case, though neither is compulsory. The skill test can be on vocal, mridangam or flute, and the panel also checks your communication skills and teaching ability.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Final merit: Your written test marks carry 40% weight and your skill test marks 60% in the final merit list.
• Both stages count: You must clear the qualifying marks in both the written test and the skill test. The committee may still consider the theory and practical marks together.
• Bring your own instrument: For the skill test, carry your own musical or percussion instrument and sruti box.
• Exam centre: Tests are held at the BASS School / Old Central Office premises inside Kalakshetra, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. The schedule is sent by email and posted on the Kalakshetra website.
• No re-evaluation: Scores at any stage are final; there is no re-checking.
• Date of birth: Only the date shown in your Class 10 certificate is accepted.
• Qualification results: Your diploma or degree result must be declared before the closing date.
• No travel allowance: You pay your own travel and stay in Chennai, even if the tests run beyond one day.
• Tie-breaker: On equal combined scores, the older candidate ranks higher, then alphabetical order.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are offline, by post only. Fill in the Annexure-I form with a blue or black ball point pen, paste one passport-size photo and put an extra photo in the cover for the call letter.

Write "Application for the post of Tutor (Music) in Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts" on the envelope and post it with self-attested copies of your certificates to The Director, Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai - 600 041, so that it reaches by 5:30 PM on the closing day.
