Kalakshetra Professor Bharatanatyam Recruitment 2026: Overview

Kalakshetra Foundation, an autonomous Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, wants a Professor (Bharatanatyam) for its Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts (RDCFA) on the Thiruvanmiyur campus in Chennai. It is a Group A post filled on deputation or short-term contract, so it suits both serving teachers from government institutions and established dancers from outside the system.

The job goes well beyond classroom teaching. You will teach Diploma and Post-Diploma practical and theory classes, but you will also choreograph dance dramas, run rehearsals with the Dance section, guide the Costume Department and travel with Kalakshetra artists for performances at the campus and abroad. If you can hold a stage solo and also conduct a recital through nattuvangam, the role is built around exactly that mix.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Two routes: Officers in central, state or autonomous institutions who hold an analogous post, or who have long regular service at the Assistant Professor level, come on deputation. Eminent artists and private persons come on a short-term contract.
• Pay matrix: Pay is fixed on the Tamil Nadu State pay matrix under the 7th Pay Commission, not the central government matrix.
• Stage ability: You must be able to give a solo performance of about two hours and to sing and conduct dance programmes through nattuvangam.
• Productions: Taking part in Kalakshetra productions and art festivals is part of the job, not an extra.
• Skill test: Shortlisted candidates may be called for a skill test if the institution finds it necessary.
