Kalakshetra Tutor (Bharatanatyam) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Kalakshetra Foundation, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is hiring a Tutor (Bharatanatyam) for its Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts (RDCFA) in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. It is a regular Group C direct recruitment for one unreserved post, paid on the Tamil Nadu Government VII Pay Commission scale.

This role is for a working dancer who can also teach. You should hold a diploma or post-diploma in Bharatanatyam and be ready to perform in Kalakshetra productions, including a solo performance of about two hours. You must also be able to sing and conduct programmes through Nattuvangam, and take practical and theory classes in English.

Knowing a South Indian language and Hindi, and being able to write music and dance notation, will work in your favour. The skill test checks your Varnam, Padam, Javali and Thillana, along with abhinaya, nritya, music knowledge, Nattuvangam and teaching ability.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Final merit: Written and skill test marks are combined in a 40:60 ratio to draw the final merit list.
• Both stages count: You must reach the qualifying marks in both the written test and the skill test. The committee may still look at theory and practical marks together.
• Non-alumni: If you are not a Kalakshetra alumnus, bring your own recorded music and rehearsal costume for the practical test.
• Syllabus and model paper: The detailed syllabus and a model question paper will be published on the Kalakshetra website and sent with the call letter.
• Exam centre: The written test is held at the Besant Arundale Senior Secondary School on the Kalakshetra campus, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. Shortlisted candidates get the schedule by email.
• Date of birth: Only the date in your Class 10 certificate is accepted.
• Qualification results: Your diploma result must be declared before the closing date.
• No travel allowance: You arrange your own travel and stay in Chennai if the tests run beyond one day.
• Tie-breaker: On equal combined scores, the older candidate ranks higher, then alphabetical order.

Applications are offline, by post only. Fill in the Annexure-I form with a blue or black ball point pen, paste one passport-size photo and put an extra photo in the cover for the call letter.

Write "Application for the post of Tutor (Bharatanatyam)" on the envelope and post it with self-attested copies of your certificates to The Director, Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai - 600041, so that it reaches by 5:30 PM on the closing day. Email or late applications are rejected.
