Kalakshetra Principal RDCFA Recruitment 2026: Overview

Kalakshetra Foundation, an autonomous Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is looking for a Principal to head its Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts (RDCFA) on the Thiruvanmiyur campus in Chennai. The Principal runs both the academic and the administrative side of the college under the guidance of the Director. This is a deputation or short-term contract post, not a regular appointment.

The college brings together the Dance, Music, Costume, Theatre and Visual Arts departments, and the Principal is the person who keeps them working as one. The post is open to serving officers holding an analogous post and to senior Bharatanatyam or Carnatic Music professors, and also to eminent artists and private persons who have the qualifications expected of a Principal or Professor in a government or autonomous institution. If you have led a reputed arts institution in a supervisory role and can still perform in your speciality, this leadership role was written with you in mind.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Two routes: Serving government officers join on deputation; artists and private candidates join on a short-term contract. You mark your route on the application form.
• Contract renewal: The contract can be extended year to year, subject to satisfactory performance during the contract period.
• Pay matrix: Pay follows the Tamil Nadu State pay matrix under the 7th Pay Commission, not the central government matrix.
• Performing ability: You need not be a working performer, but you must be able to perform in your area of specialisation.
• Languages: Knowledge of the local language and English is essential; Hindi is an added advantage.
• Reporting line: The Principal works under the orders of the Director and recommends, rather than decides, faculty contracts, the yearly fee structure and outside partnerships.
• Shortlisting: Only candidates who meet every essential condition are shortlisted, and they may be called for an interaction with the selection committee.

Fill in the proforma given as Annexure-I in the notice, paste a recent colour photograph, and send it to The Director, Kalakshetra Foundation, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai – 600 041. Write “Application for the post of Principal, Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Kalakshetra Foundation” on the cover.

• Serving officials: Send your application through proper channel together with cadre clearance, vigilance clearance and copies of your APARs for the last five years.
• No email: Applications sent by email, incomplete forms and late arrivals are rejected outright. Your form must physically reach the office by 5.30 p.m. on the last date.

• Run all administrative and academic work of Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts under the Director
• Prepare proposals to develop and promote the college's academic programmes, including international programmes
• Coordinate the Dance, Music, Costume, Theatre and Visual Arts departments
• Monitor daily student attendance, discipline and the overall running of the college
• Ensure exams are held smoothly and results are declared on time
• Hold the Academic Advisory Committee meeting and an alumni meeting at least once a year
• Organise yearly placement services and recommend the annual fee structure
• Keep the college section of the Kalakshetra website up to date
