JIPMER Project Research Scientist-III Recruitment 2026: Overview

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, is hiring a Project Research Scientist-III (Non-Medical) for the ICMR-funded PReMI Study (Preventing Premature Myocardial Infarction), run by the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine.

The study is a hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial. It tests a community and digital programme, designed together with the community, that aims to lower heart and metabolic risk among young high-risk adults in South India. The Principal Investigator is Dr Venkatachalam J.

This is a contract post tied to the project, filled through a walk-in. The person selected will steer the study's day-to-day science and fieldwork — supervising field teams, working with primary health centres (PHCs) and district health officials, and helping turn the data into papers. It suits a public health or epidemiology postgraduate or PhD holder who has already led community research and is comfortable working in Tamil.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project-only engagement: The post lasts only as long as the project and its external funding, and it gives you no claim to any regular post in JIPMER.
• Tenure: The project is likely to run for three years, but the Principal Investigator can extend or cut short your engagement.
• Consolidated pay: You get one consolidated amount that may change from time to time; no other allowance or facility is given.
• Language and travel: You need excellent Tamil and English and your own two-wheeler with a valid driving licence, since the work means coordinating with PHCs and district health teams.
• Publication: A first-author publication is part of the essential criteria; one in an indexed journal is an added advantage.
• Relevant experience: Your experience must be in a relevant field, at a reputed institution, and gained after you earned the essential qualification.
• Discretion of the PI: The Principal Investigator may relax or change the qualification, experience and other terms, and the PI's decision is final.
• Shortlisting: If many people apply, stricter criteria may be used, and only shortlisted candidates move to the written test and interview.
• No TA/DA: You will not be paid any travel allowance for attending.
• False information: Wrong details or canvassing lead to disqualification, or termination even after you join.

• Coordinate the overall scientific and field implementation of the PReMI study
• Supervise field teams and track participant recruitment, intervention delivery and follow-up
• Help develop and refine the behavioural and community-digital intervention
• Work with PHCs and district health authorities to keep implementation running smoothly
• Monitor protocol adherence, intervention fidelity and data quality
• Contribute to statistical analysis, reports, scientific presentations and manuscripts
