About This Job

IIT Tirupati Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati) is recruiting a Research Associate in the Department of Physics for a National Quantum Mission project sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology. The project, titled Quantum Machine Learning: Reservoir Computing and PDE Solvers, connects quantum information with numerical analysis to study computational approaches for scientific and engineering problems. It is a time-bound research appointment under project number PHY2627003DSTXARAV, not a regular institute post.

The research programme has two linked technical directions. One examines quantum reservoir computing, while the other explores quantum algorithms that can help solve partial differential equations. These problems call for a researcher who can connect mathematical reasoning with working scientific software, design meaningful benchmarks and explain results through papers and presentations. The notice also describes the project as multi-institutional, giving the appointee possible exposure to partner teams at IISER Pune, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur and AFMC Pune.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Initial tenure: The assignment begins as a fixed-term project appointment and may be extended within the project period, subject to satisfactory work and continued funding.
  • Project-linked status: The role exists for the sponsored research programme; it does not carry a claim to a permanent IIT Tirupati appointment.
  • Performance condition: IIT Tirupati may discontinue the appointment with one month's notice if performance is not satisfactory.
  • Collaborative setting: Work may involve partner institutions, so you should be comfortable coordinating methods, data and research outputs across teams.
  • Technical standard: The project expects more than a conceptual understanding of quantum methods. You should be able to build working prototypes, compare them with established numerical approaches and explain whether any observed advantage is reliable and reproducible.
  • Outstanding profiles: The institute may relax the essential academic conditions for an exceptionally strong researcher.
  • Shortlisting: Only shortlisted applicants will receive interview details, and communication will be sent by email.
  • Interview format: The interview may be held in person or online at the institute's discretion.
  • Travel costs: No TA or DA will be paid to applicants attending the interview online or at IIT Tirupati.
  • Research independence: The selected person should be able to formulate, implement, test and benchmark algorithms while maintaining a clear publication record.

Application Submission Notes
