IIT Kharagpur, an Institute of Eminence and the oldest IIT in the country, has released Advertisement No. R/05/2026 to engage 10 Professional Trainees in its Finance & Accounts Section. This is a good opportunity for fresh ICAI/ICMAI Intermediate qualified candidates to gain hands-on experience in institutional finance while earning a stipend. The last date to apply online has been extended to 19 July 2026 through an official corrigendum.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a graduation degree along with an Intermediate Level Certificate from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI).
• Note: Candidates who were previously selected as a Professional Trainee at IIT Kharagpur cannot apply again.
• Reservation: Seats are reserved for ST/SC/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates as per Government of India rules.

This role is well suited to candidates who have cleared the Intermediate level of ICAI or ICMAI and are looking to gain practical work experience before completing their final qualification. Since you are engaged purely as a trainee, this is not a regular Institute job — but it gives you real exposure to government accounting and finance practices.

Age Limit

• You must be below 25 years old as on the last date of online application submission.
• Age Relaxation: Applicable for ST/SC/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• You will get a stipend of Rs. 20,000 per month during the training period.
• Shared unfurnished accommodation may be provided subject to availability. License fee, water and electricity charges will be recovered as per Institute rules.

Application Fee

• UR / EWS / OBC: Rs. 500
• SC / ST / PwD / Women: Rs. 250
• Payment mode: Online through SBI Net Banking, other banks' net banking, credit cards, or Rupay debit cards.
• The fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted for any other application, examination, or selection.

Selection Process

The selection has the following stages:

1. Document Screening: The Institute shortlists candidates only on the basis of documents uploaded during the online application. No hard copy is required.
2. Call Letter: Shortlisted candidates get a call letter by email for the next stage. Keep checking your email regularly.

3. Upload your qualification certificates and other required documents.
4. Pay the application fee online.
5. Submit the form before 19 July 2026.

Training Details

• Period of Training: 15 months.
• Working Hours: 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, under the direct supervision of Finance & Accounts Section officers.
• Leave: You get 2.5 days of leave for every completed month of work.
• Any indiscipline or irregularity can lead to early closure of your training without prior notice.

As a Professional Trainee, you get to work on real financial transactions and records of the Institute rather than just classroom learning. This hands-on exposure to institutional finance can be valuable as you work towards completing your ICAI or ICMAI qualification. Since shared unfurnished accommodation may be provided subject to availability, this can also help you save on living costs during the training period — though you will need to pay license fee, water charges, and electricity charges as per actual use and Institute rules.
