The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, has released Advertisement No. IITH/CS/54 dated 02 July 2026 to fill one Science Communication Officer post. The engagement is purely contractual for an initial period of 11 months, and it can be extended based on your performance and the Institute needs. Who Can Apply?

This is a senior communication role, so both a research degree and real work experience are needed. You must also be a citizen of India.

• Qualification: PhD in Science, Engineering or Technology from a recognised university or institute.
• Experience: At least 3 years of post-PhD professional experience in scientific research, institutional science communication or science outreach.
• Specific experience: At least 1 year in a science communication role at a higher education institution or research institute.

Desirable Skills

• Experience publishing popular science articles or science journalism for a general audience.
• Experience conducting and documenting interviews with researchers and subject experts.
• Experience creating and sharing content across digital and social media platforms.
• Experience planning public science events and outreach programmes.
• Working knowledge of website content tools, newsletter platforms and graphic design tools.

Age Limit

• The upper age limit is 45 years as on 22 July 2026.
• Age Relaxation: Relaxation in the upper age limit applies for horizontal reservation categories as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated pay of Rs. 1,00,000 per month.
• The amount is subject to statutory deductions as applicable. This is a contractual post, so standard allowances are not paid separately.
• Working hours are 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, and you may be asked to work on weekends or holidays when needed.

Selection Process

The selection will be done through the following steps:

1. Written Test / Skill Test: If conducted, it will cover general aptitude, English language and comprehension, science writing and editing for non-expert audiences, drafting research news stories and press releases, and science communication ethics.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at IIT Hyderabad, Kandi, Sangareddy.
3. Document Verification: Bring self-attested copies of all certificates along with the originals at the time of the test or interview.

No travel allowance or DA is paid for attending the selection.

2. Register using a valid and active email ID (One Time Registration).
3. Fill in the online application form with your personal, education and employment details.
4. Upload your certificates, experience letters and photo in the prescribed format (PDF, up to 1 MB each).
5. Review the details and submit the form before the deadline.

Only online applications are accepted. Offline applications will be rejected, and you do not need to send a printout to the Institute. The selected candidate must also hold a valid health insurance policy for the engagement period, arranged at their own cost.

The cut-off date for age, qualification and experience is the last date of application, i.e. 22 July 2026. The appointment can be ended with one month notice from either side and gives no claim to permanent employment at IIT Hyderabad.
