About This Job

IIT BHU is hiring 1 Project Junior Research Fellow in the School of Biochemical Engineering for a DBT-funded biosensor project. If you have a first class M.Tech or M.Sc in the listed biochemical/life science fields with GATE/NET or an equivalent national exam where required, you can apply through the Google Form and email. Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi Project JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi has released a project notice for one temporary Project JRF post under the Department of Biotechnology funded project on biopolymer based degradable and wireless implantable biosensors. The project is sanctioned up to December 2028, and the appointment will end with the project.

This role is best suited for candidates who want research experience in biomaterials, biodegradable polymers, biosensors and biomedical devices. The notice says SC/ST candidates will get preference when all other things are equal, as per Government of India rules.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • M.Tech route: You need first class M.Tech in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Bioprocess Engineering/Technology, Chemical Engineering/Technology or Industrial Microbiology.
  • M.Sc route: You need first class M.Sc in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Food Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetic Science/Engineering, Botany, Zoology, Life Sciences or Environmental Technology with GATE/NET or national level equivalent exam qualification.

Desirable Experience

  • Research experience: Minimum 2 years of research experience is preferred.
  • Technical skills: Hands-on work in biomaterials, biodegradable polymers, implantable or wearable medical devices, flexible electronics, wireless sensing and tissue engineering is useful.
  • Biomedical work: Experience in small animal studies, biomedical device validation, material characterization, histology, data analysis and scientific writing will help.
  • Exam/publication preference: CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, DBT-BET, ICMR-JRF or similar national exams and relevant research publications are preferred.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 28 years.
  • Relaxation: Female, SC, ST, OBC and physically handicapped candidates can get relaxation as per Government of India norms.

Salary

  • Monthly fellowship: Rs. 37,000 per month.
  • HRA: 18% if accommodation inside the campus is not provided.
  • Approximate monthly total with HRA: Rs. 43,660.
  • The post is temporary and project-linked, so salary is paid only during the approved appointment period.

Selection Process

Responsibilities

  • Work on biomaterials and biodegradable polymer research for implantable biosensors
  • Prepare and test biosensor materials, prototypes and related biomedical device components
  • Assist with tissue engineering, wireless sensing and flexible electronics experiments
  • Keep laboratory records, experiment logs, data files and sample documentation updated
  • Support material characterization, histology, data analysis and scientific writing
  • Follow IIT BHU laboratory safety, animal handling and research ethics requirements
  • Prepare research summaries, presentations and reports for project reviews
