Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur is hiring 24 retired Central Government employees and ex-servicemen for Gunner, Fitter and Driver HMV posts on a fixed tenure contract. Gun Carriage Factory Multi-Post Recruitment 2026 - 24 Posts

Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur is a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Defence and a unit of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL). This notice is for fixed tenure contract engagement for an initial one year, extendable by another year based on factory requirement and performance. The work is defence-production focused and includes Dhanush/Bofors gun operations, assembly, maintenance, firing support and heavy vehicle duties.

This engagement is full-time contract work, not regular re-employment in government service. Normal working hours are stated as 8 hours a day and 6 days a week, with flexibility for extra hours, holidays or outstation duties when factory work needs it. Selected people must follow factory rules, confidentiality rules and the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

Who Can Apply?

Service Background

  • Retired Central Government employees can apply if they retired from relevant fields.
  • Ex-servicemen from Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, PMF, BSF, Coast Guard or Agniveer background can apply where relevant.
  • Preference is given to experience from Erstwhile OFB, DGQA, DGNAI, DGAQA, EME Workshop, MES and related defence organisations.
  • The policy covers people who were at working level, including NGO civilian ranks or JCO and below at retirement.

Experience

  • Relevant experience: You must have experience for the post you apply for, supported by a certificate from the competent authority.
  • Gunner: Large calibre gun handling, deployment, firing drill, proof firing support or field coordination experience is important.
  • Fitter: Mechanical, electrical or electronic maintenance of large calibre guns and related assemblies is relevant.
  • Driver HMV: Heavy vehicle mechanics, air braking, winch operations, heavy gear shifting and off-road driving experience is relevant.
  • Travel readiness: The notice says hired manpower may need to travel to other units and proof ranges for official work.

Age Limit

  • Ex-servicemen: Maximum age should not exceed 52 years as on the last date of application.
  • Retired Central Government employees: Maximum age should not exceed 63 years and 6 months as on the last date of application.
  • Extension limit: Contract extension beyond two years may be considered only up to the maximum age of 65 years, subject to requirement and review.

Salary

  • Highly Skilled Grade: Rs. 40,000 per month fixed gross for ex-servicemen.
  • Skilled Grade: Rs. 32,000 per month fixed gross for ex-servicemen.
  • Civilian retired employees: Fixed monthly amount will be calculated as last pay drawn minus basic pension, as per Department of Expenditure rules.
  • No extra DA or HRA is payable, but travel allowance may be claimed for official outstation travel as per the notice.
  • Contractual appointees get 12 days leave in a calendar year, but leave cannot be carried forward beyond the year.

Selection Process

Selection for GCF contract posts will be through interview-cum-practical test. Only shortlisted candidates will be informed through SMS or email for the next stage.

  2. Interview-cum-practical test: Shortlisted candidates are assessed for the applied trade and defence equipment work.

Responsibilities

  • Handle proof firing, testing and field support for defence equipment
  • Operate or support large calibre gun systems during firing and deployment work
  • Maintain mechanical, electrical or electronic gun assemblies based on trade
  • Assist with Dhanush, Bofors and related artillery assembly and troubleshooting
  • Drive and manage heavy multi-axle platforms or armoured carriers where assigned
  • Prepare technical feedback and support users during field deployment
  • Follow factory safety, secrecy and conduct rules during the contract period

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Retired Central Government employee or ex-serviceman with relevant service background and experience for the applied post.

Preferred Qualification

Experience from Erstwhile OFB, DGQA, DGNAI, DGAQA, EME Workshop, MES, Army, Navy, Air Force, PMF, BSF, Coast Guard or Agniveer background in the relevant field.

Required Skills

Large calibre gun handling, proof firing, mechanical/electrical/electronic maintenance, field support or heavy motor vehicle operation as applicable to the post.

Age Relaxation:

  • Ex-servicemen maximum age: 52 years as on last date.
