About This Job

IIT BHU is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Biochemical Engineering for a DBT-funded sustainable films and coatings project. If you have a first class M.Tech or M.Sc in the listed biochemical/life science fields with GATE/NET or an equivalent national exam where required, you can apply by Google Form and email. Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi Bio-chemical JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi has released a project notice for one temporary JRF post under the Department of Biotechnology funded project titled Lignocellulose based scalable luminous photonic biopolymers for sustainable films and coatings. The project is sanctioned up to November 2028, and the appointment will end with the project.

This role fits candidates interested in biomaterials, biodegradable polymers, cellulose nanocrystals and biopolymer-based materials. The notice says SC/ST candidates will get preference when all other things are equal, as per Government of India rules.

Essential Qualification

  • M.Tech route: You need first class M.Tech in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Bioprocess Engineering/Technology, Chemical Engineering/Technology or Industrial Microbiology.
  • M.Sc route: You need first class M.Sc in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Food Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetic Science/Engineering, Botany, Zoology, Life Sciences or Environmental Technology with GATE/NET or national level equivalent exam qualification.

Desirable Experience

  • Research experience: Research experience and hands-on work in biomaterials and biodegradable polymers is preferred.
  • Materials work: Experience in extraction, modification and functional characterization of CNC and biopolymer-based materials will help.
  • Research profile: CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, DBT-BET, ICMR-JRF or similar national exams, relevant publications and biopolymer technology experience are preferred.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 28 years.
  • Relaxation: Female, SC, ST, OBC and physically handicapped candidates can get relaxation as per Government of India norms.

Salary

  • Monthly fellowship: Rs. 37,000 per month.
  • HRA: 20% if accommodation inside the campus is not provided.
  • Approximate monthly total with HRA: Rs. 44,400.
  • The post is temporary and project-linked, so salary is paid only during the approved appointment period.

Selection Process

Responsibilities

  • Work on lignocellulose based biopolymer research for sustainable films and coatings
  • Prepare, modify and characterize cellulose nanocrystal and biopolymer samples
  • Assist with experiments on biomaterials, biodegradable polymers and photonic biopolymer materials
  • Keep laboratory notebooks, sample records, test data and analysis files updated
  • Support experimental planning, data interpretation, reports and publication drafts
  • Follow IIT BHU laboratory safety, chemical handling and research documentation rules
  • Prepare presentations and summaries for project reviews and technical meetings
