Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIM Tiruchirappalli), the eleventh IIM set up under the Ministry of Education, has released a rolling advertisement for Academic Associate positions on a contract basis. You can apply for any of the 8 specialization areas — Economics & Public Policy, Finance and Accounting, General Management, Information Systems and Analytics, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour & HRM, Operations Management and Decision Sciences, or Strategy. This is a great entry point into academia — you get to work directly with faculty members and students while building research and teaching experience. Both fresh graduates and PhD holders are encouraged to apply, though you must apply separately for each area you are interested in.

The initial appointment is for one year on a consolidated monthly salary. Based on your performance and the Institute's requirements, this contract may be extended further, though the total tenure cannot exceed 2 years. As an Academic Associate, you will support faculty members with course preparation, research, grading, and organizing academic events — giving you a real, hands-on view of how a top B-school works from the inside.

Who Can Apply?

Along with the area-specific qualifications listed below, you will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English, the ability to multi-task, and working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Python, R, or VBA programming is an added advantage for most areas.

a. Economics & Public Policy

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• Graduate/Postgraduate in Economics or allied fields, OR
• B.Tech/B.E. with adequate experience

b. Finance and Accounting

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• MBA or equivalent (First Class) with specialization in finance and accounting, OR
• M.Com (First Class) with specialization in computer applications

c. General Management

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• MBA or equivalent (First Class)
• Background in or interest towards Law is an added advantage for this area

d. Information Systems and Analytics (ISA)

• PhD with expertise in Information Systems/Analytics, OR
• MBA with specialization in IT/Analytics, OR
• B.Tech/B.E./BCA/B.Sc in IT, Computer Science, or related fields

e. Marketing

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• First Class postgraduate (MBA or PG in a relevant field) with 1 year of post-qualification experience in academics or industry

f. Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• Graduate with at least 50% marks and good written and spoken English (Arts, Science, or Engineering background accepted)

g. Operations Management and Decision Sciences

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• B.E. (any branch), B.Sc/M.Sc in Mathematics or Statistics, OR MBA with specialization in Operations/Analytics
• 1-3 years of relevant experience is desirable, but fresh graduates can also apply

h. Strategy

• PhD (with or without experience), OR
• MBA or Master's Degree in Economics, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field with a good academic record

Age Limit

• If you have a PhD, the upper age limit is 35 years.
• If you do not have a PhD, the upper age limit is 30 years.

Salary

• Candidates with a PhD will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 30,000 per month.
• Candidates without a PhD will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 25,000 per month.
• This is a fixed monthly pay — no separate DA, HRA, or other allowances are mentioned in the notification.
• Candidates without the required experience may still be considered on merit, but at a lower stipend than mentioned above.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 3 stages:

1. Written Test: Tests your knowledge in your chosen specialization area.
2. Skill Test: Assesses relevant practical and technical skills for the role.
3. Personal Interview: The final round to assess your fit for the position.

Remember, you must apply separately for each area if you want to be considered for more than one specialization. Meeting the eligibility conditions does not guarantee that you will be shortlisted — the Institute reserves the right to fill or not fill any of the posts, and canvassing in any form will disqualify your candidature.
