Who Can Apply?

Post 1 — JRF (IARI New Delhi)

  • Essential: Master's degree in Genetics / Plant Breeding / Genetics & Plant Breeding / Molecular Biology / Biotechnology or a relevant life science discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in any life science discipline
  • You must have a minimum of 60% marks in postgraduation
  • You must have qualified NET/GATE or any National Level examination conducted by Central Government Departments/Agencies/Institutions (DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, IARI, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER)

Post 2 — JRF (IARI Regional Station, Shimla)

  • Essential qualification is the same as Post 1
  • Must be NET/GATE qualified by Central Government Departments/Agencies (DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, IARI, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER)
  • Desirable: Research experience in microscopy, Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and molecular marker assisted breeding

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 35 years as on the date of interview (30th April 2026)
  • Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Women candidates as per Government of India guidelines

Salary

  • Post 1 (New Delhi) — 1st & 2nd year: Rs. 37,000/- per month + 27% HRA (total approximately Rs. 46,990/month)
  • Post 1 (New Delhi) — 3rd year: Rs. 42,000/- per month + 27% HRA (total approximately Rs. 53,340/month)
  • Post 2 (Shimla) — 1st & 2nd year: Rs. 37,000/- per month + 10% HRA (total approximately Rs. 40,700/month)
  • Post 2 (Shimla) — 3rd year: Rs. 42,000/- per month + 10% HRA (total approximately Rs. 46,200/month)
  • The posts are purely temporary and contractual for an initial period of 6 months, extendable based on performance

Responsibilities

  • Assist in pre-breeding experiments for developing climate-resilient and disease-resistant wheat varieties
  • Handle laboratory techniques related to molecular biology, cytogenetics, and plant breeding
  • Prepare research samples and maintain records of experimental data and results
  • Work on Triticale x Wheat-derived rye chromatin gene transfer and analysis
  • Follow standard operating procedures for microscopy, FISH, and molecular marker assisted breeding
  • Manage field trials and greenhouse experiments under the guidance of the Principal Investigator
  • Prepare reports, research papers, and presentations on project findings

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Master's degree in Genetics / Plant Breeding / Molecular Biology / Biotechnology with NET/GATE qualification

Preferred Qualification

Research experience in microscopy, Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and molecular marker assisted breeding

Required Skills

NET/GATE qualified, 60% marks in postgraduation, knowledge of plant genetics and breeding
