Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati), an Institute of national importance under the Institute of Technology Act 1961, has released Advertisement No. IITT/FACREC/01/2026 dated 10-04-2026 for faculty positions at the levels of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. The positions are open across 12 departments and research areas including Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Humanities, and the newly established Applied AI department. Applications are open to Indian nationals, PIOs, OCIs, and foreign nationals. Women candidates and candidates from reserved categories are especially encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification (All Positions)

• Qualification: Ph.D. in the relevant discipline or advertised area, with a first class or equivalent (in terms of grades) in the preceding degree
• You must have a consistently strong academic record throughout
• Candidates holding a Ph.D. in other areas can also apply if their recent research falls within the advertised areas

Assistant Professor Grade II (Contractual)

• Must meet all criteria for Assistant Professor Grade I except the post-Ph.D. experience requirement
• You can be appointed with appropriate pay based on your post-doctoral experience
• Once you fulfill the Grade I experience criteria, an expert committee will review your credentials for movement to Grade I

Assistant Professor Grade I

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of post-Ph.D. teaching, research, or professional experience (excluding experience gained while pursuing Ph.D.)
• You should have demonstrated research capabilities through publications in reputed journals and conferences

Associate Professor

• Experience: Minimum 6 years post-Ph.D. teaching/research/professional experience, of which at least 3 years must be at the level of Assistant Professor Grade I in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs, or equivalent institutions
• You should have an excellent record of publications, must have graduated Ph.D. students, and demonstrated excellent teaching abilities

Professor

• Experience: Minimum 10 years post-Ph.D. experience, of which at least 4 years at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs, or equivalent
• You should have demonstrated leadership in research, an excellent publication record, and should have graduated Ph.D. students

Note: Post-doctoral research, relevant industry or R&D experience, and teaching at reputed institutions will be counted. Part-time employment, guest faculty positions, and daily-wage contracts will NOT be counted.

Age Limit

• Assistant Professor Grade II: Preferably below 35 years
• Assistant Professor Grade I: Preferably below 38 years
• Associate Professor: Preferably below 45 years
• Age is reckoned as on the closing date of the online application (09 May 2026)
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST — 5 years, OBC-NCL — 3 years
• PwD: UR & PwD — 10 years, OBC-NCL & PwD — 13 years, SC/ST & PwD — 15 years
• Female candidates get an additional 3 years of relaxation over and above the category relaxation
• OBC-NCL & EWS certificate issued on or after 01-04-2026 only is valid
• IIT Tirupati reserves the right to relax the age for exceptional candidates

Salary

Selected candidates will receive pay as per the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix for Central Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs):

• Assistant Professor Grade II (Fresh Ph.D.): Pay Level 10, Basic Pay Rs. 70,900 per month (Pay range: Rs. 57,700 - 98,200)
• Assistant Professor Grade II (1 year experience): Pay Level 11, Basic Pay Rs. 73,100 per month (Pay range: Rs. 68,900 - 1,17,200)
• Assistant Professor Grade II (2 years experience): Pay Level 11, Basic Pay Rs. 75,300 per month
• Assistant Professor Grade I: Pay Level 12, Basic Pay Rs. 1,01,500 per month (Pay range: Rs. 1,01,500 - 1,67,400)
• Assistant Professor Grade I (Pay Level 13A1): Basic Pay Rs. 1,31,400 per month (Pay range: Rs. 1,31,400 - 2,04,700)
• Associate Professor: Pay Level 13A2, Basic Pay Rs. 1,39,600 per month (Pay range: Rs. 1,39,600 - 2,11,300)
• Professor: Pay Level 14A, Basic Pay Rs. 1,59,100 per month (Pay range: Rs. 1,59,100 - 2,20,200)

In addition to basic pay, you will get DA, HRA, Transport Allowance (TA), Leave Travel Concession (LTC), Medical Reimbursement, Education Allowance for children, NPS contribution, and reimbursement of telephone bills as per Central Government norms.

Note: Pay shown above is the minimum. Higher starting pay may be offered to deserving candidates at the discretion of the Board of Governors.

Selection Process

1. Shortlisting: The institute will shortlist candidates based on qualifications, experience, publications, and academic achievements. Mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility does not guarantee shortlisting.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Candidates from abroad may be interviewed via video conferencing. At least three confidential reference letters must be arranged by email to the Dean (Faculty Affairs).
3. Document Verification: Certificates of educational qualifications from 10th standard onwards, including the Ph.D. completion date certificate, must be uploaded.

Important: Candidates employed in Government, Semi-Government Organizations, Public Undertakings, or Educational Institutions must apply through proper channel and submit a No Objection Certificate at the time of interview.

Support for Professional Advancement

• Relocation Allowance: Up to Rs. 1,50,000 for joining from abroad; up to Rs. 75,000 for joining from within India
• Initiation Grant: Rs. 2.50 Lakhs for initial setup of office hardware and software
• Faculty Start-up Grant: Up to Rs. 20 Lakhs for research after proposal review
• Professional Development Allowance (CPDA): Rs. 3 Lakhs per 3-year block for conferences, professional memberships, and related expenses
• Guest House: Accommodation for up to 2 weeks on arrival
• Sabbatical Leave: Flexible sabbatical facility for collaboration with other researchers and industry
• No limit on international conference attendance without affecting academic work
• Professional visits during vacations for scientific research
• Liberal consultancy policies encouraged
