ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi is hiring 2 Young Professional-II researchers for the BTR-3 Coastal Resilience Project. ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) Young Professional-II Recruitment 2026
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI), Kochi has released a notification for 2 Young Professional-II positions under the project "Integrating Risk Assessments and Future Projections for Sustainable Coastal Resilience for BTR-3." One post needs a Statistics/Economics background and the other needs a Fisheries/Marine Science/Oceanography background, though both work on the same coastal resilience research covering field data collection, statistical analysis, and climate risk assessment for India's fishing communities. This is a great opportunity for postgraduates with hands-on data analysis skills in Python, R, SPSS, STATA, or QGIS to gain research experience with ICAR. Note: the total number of positions may vary depending on other project requirements at the time of interview.

Who Can Apply?
For Statistics/Economics Post:
- Qualification: Postgraduate degree in Statistics or Economics.
- Desirable: At least 1 year of experience in socio-economic research, climate risk and vulnerability assessment, socio-economic surveys, and statistical analysis. Hands-on experience with Python, R, SPSS, STATA, and dashboard development is a plus.
For Fisheries/Marine Science Post:
- Qualification: Postgraduate degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Science, or Oceanography.
- Desirable: At least 1 year of experience in climate data analysis and climate modelling/projection, with working knowledge of R, Python, and QGIS for spatial and climate data analysis.
Age Limit
- You should be between 21 and 45 years old, with relaxation as per rules for the Young Professional category.
Salary
- Selected candidates will get a consolidated emolument of Rs. 42,000 per month, as per ICAR guidelines.
- No TA/DA is paid for appearing at the interview.
- The post is purely on contract basis for one year from the date of joining, or till the project ends, whichever is earlier — it does not entitle you to any regular appointment at the institute.
Selection Process
The selection will be done in the following stage:
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates are informed by email and must appear for an interview at ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi on 19 August 2026. Only candidates who receive an email intimation can appear, and you must carry a valid ID proof at the time of interview.

- Travel along the Indian coast as required for project fieldwork
- Coordinate with the project team on data collection schedules
