About This Job

Bharathidasan University is hiring 1 Project Assistant at the School of Chemistry under the Chief Minister's Research Grant (CMRG) project. Bharathidasan University Project Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli (NAAC A+, 36th rank in NIRF-2025) has released a notice through the School of Chemistry for a Project Assistant under the CMRG project led by Dr. Nagarajan Loganathan, UGC Assistant Professor. The project is on Transition metal carbonyls as CO Releasing Molecules (CORM) and as an organometallic catalyst for sustainable organic transformations, in the area of Inorganic Chemistry (metal-organic compounds). The selected candidate must enroll for the regular Ph.D. program under the same PI at the School of Chemistry.

The position is temporary and co-terminus with the project. The initial appointment is for one year and can be extended up to a maximum of three years (till Feb 2029) based on satisfactory performance. So this post is best suited for M.Sc. Chemistry candidates who want to pursue a Ph.D. and gain research experience in organometallic chemistry, catalysis, and spectroscopy.

  • Desired: Good knowledge of organic and organometallic synthesis and catalysis, coordination chemistry concepts, and spectroscopic techniques.

Other Requirements

  • The selected candidate must enroll for the regular Ph.D. program under Dr. Nagarajan Loganathan at the School of Chemistry, Bharathidasan University.
  • GATE / SET / NET / BDU Ph.D. Entrance qualifications should be mentioned if you have them.

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit: 28 years
  • Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST candidates

Salary

  • Consolidated fellowship: Rs. 25,000 per month
  • Duration: Initial appointment is for 1 year, extendable up to 3 years (till Feb 2029) based on satisfactory performance

Selection Process

Selection will be done in 2 stages on the same day:

  1. Written Examination: A written test will be conducted in the morning. It will check your subject knowledge in chemistry.

Final selection is purely based on qualification and performance in both the written exam and interview. Only shortlisted candidates will be communicated through email. Original documents must be presented at the time of the interview, and attested photocopies will be collected.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator with the CMRG project on transition metal carbonyls and organometallic catalysts
  • Carry out synthesis of metal-organic compounds and CO releasing molecules (CORMs)
  • Operate spectroscopic instruments and characterise reaction products
  • Prepare research reports, project updates, and publication drafts
  • Maintain lab records, chemical inventories, and safety logs at the School of Chemistry
  • Enroll in and pursue the regular Ph.D. program under the Principal Investigator
  • Support fellow researchers and lab activities as assigned by the PI
