Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna company under the Ministry of Defence, has released advertisement no. 383/HR/REC/US/2026/ESM for 1 Senior Assistant Engineer (E-I) post on a fixed tenure basis. This is a special Drone Veteran post for retired or retiring officers of the Indian Armed Forces who have hands-on UAV (drone) flying and test experience. The job is based at BEL's Unmanned Systems unit in Bengaluru.

Who Can Apply?

Who Is Eligible

• You must be an ex-serviceman from the Indian Armed Forces (Army, Air Force or Navy only).
• You should be a retired or serving officer (retiring shortly) in the rank of Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) or equivalent.
• You must be a certified test pilot or qualified flying instructor, certified from a Category 'A' Indian Defence Service Training Establishment.

Educational Qualification

• A 3-year Diploma in Engineering (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Aeronautical or Mechatronics, with a pass class.

Experience

• At least 15 years of post-qualification experience as a Drone-Trained Veteran with UAV flying, mission handling, mapping and surveillance skills.
• At least 5 years of operational flying experience in the Tri-Services.
• Flying experience as Internal Pilot (IP) / External Pilot (EP): 200 hours as EP and 500 hours as IP.
• Experience on SR Tactical UAVs and/or MALE UAVs, and eligibility for security clearance.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit: 50 years (as on 1 April 2026).
• Only Indian nationals can apply.

Salary

• Pay scale: Rs. 30,000 - 3% - 1,20,000 per month (you join at the minimum of the scale).
• You also get Dearness Allowance, HRA, 35% of basic pay as perquisites, Provident Fund, Group Insurance, Performance Related Pay, Gratuity and medical facility for self and family.

Selection Process

The selection is done in two stages:

1. Written Test: A written test is held first. Candidates are shortlisted from it in the ratio of 1:7 for the interview.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview. The date, time and venue are sent by email only.

You must also be medically fit for aviation/UAV duties, with normal eyesight (non-colour blindness), sound decision-making ability and full functional use of limbs. Final medical clearance is as per BEL's authorised medical authority.

• Conduct test, certification, acceptance and operational flying of UAVs including SR Tactical and MALE UAVs
• Operate UAVs in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) airspace including abnormal and emergency handling
• Perform duties as Internal Pilot (IP) and External Pilot (EP)
• Participate in flight safety reviews, trial readiness activities and certification support
• Coordinate with engineering, quality, airworthiness authorities and user representatives
• Support payload operations, data link management (LOS / SATCOM) and mission execution
• Prepare flight reports, safety documentation and operational feedback
• Support training of internal operators and standardise procedures
