ACTREC, the research wing of Tata Memorial Centre, is hiring for 1 Scientific Officer E post in Translational Cancer Research at Navi Mumbai. ACTREC Scientific Officer E Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) is the R&D wing of Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), an autonomous Grant-in-Aid institute under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. ACTREC has released advertisement No. ACTREC/ADVT/A-04/2026 for an independent faculty position as Scientific Officer E in the area of Translational Cancer Research. This is a permanent research role with lab space and startup funds provided to help you run your own research program.
Who Can Apply?
Educational Qualification
- You must have a Ph.D in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology or an equivalent discipline from a recognised university.
Experience
- You need a minimum of 4 years of research experience after your Ph.D in the relevant area, backed by strong publications.
- You should have a record of independent research, shown by papers as first and corresponding author in peer-reviewed international journals in tumour cell biology and translational cancer research.
- You must have hands-on experience with advanced cancer model systems like Patient-Derived Organoids (PDOs) and Patient-Derived Xenografts (PDXs).
- Experience with rare, aggressive or therapy-resistant cancers is essential.
- Strong knowledge of cell and molecular biology, cancer signalling pathways, drug response assays and therapeutic vulnerabilities is needed.
Other Requirements
- Indian citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card holders and foreign nationals who meet the qualification and experience conditions can all apply.
- You must have a valid email ID and mobile number, kept active throughout the recruitment.
- You need to list three referees who have been linked to your training or supervision.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 45 years (as on 19 June 2026).
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST get 5 years, OBC get 3 years, PwD get 10 years (with extra relaxation for reserved PwD), and Ex-servicemen get length of service plus 3 years.
- TMC staff: Tata Memorial Centre employees, including those on temporary, project or contract basis, get up to 5 years relaxation.
- Age relaxation for reserved categories applies only if the post is reserved for that category. This post is Unreserved (UR).
Salary
- Initial pay: Rs. 78,800 per month under Pay Level 12, Cell 1 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix.
- You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per TMC rules.
- Extra benefits include institutional financial support for national and international conferences (after probation), medical facility, residential accommodation (subject to availability), and retirement benefits with pension.
- The selected candidate also gets laboratory space and startup funds to set up independent research.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)
Selection is based on your research record, presentation and interview:
- Online Application Screening: ACTREC first screens applications based on your qualifications, experience, publications and the research proposal you submit.
- Open Presentation: Eligible candidates are invited to give an open research presentation.
- Final Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend a final interview and a meeting with individual faculty members.
- Document Verification: You must bring original documents plus one set of photocopies (date of birth, qualification, experience certificates, caste/EWS/disability certificates where applicable).
ACTREC can fix a minimum eligibility benchmark and restrict the number of candidates called for interview. Just meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.

Responsibilities
- Lead independent research on Patient-Derived Organoids (PDOs) and Patient-Derived Xenografts (PDXs) for translational cancer research
- Provide scientific oversight to patient-derived model system facilities, including PDO and PDX platforms
- Run research projects focused on rare and aggressive cancers, with a focus on clinical relevance and therapy resistance
- Guide and supervise PhD students registered under HBNI and other academic programs
- Teach and propose new courses in the graduate program
- Support ACTREC core research facilities and take part in institutional scientific activities
- Collaborate with clinicians and researchers across Tata Memorial Centre for bench-to-bedside research
- Attract competitive research funding from national and international grant agencies
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Ph.D in Life Sciences / Biotechnology / Molecular Biology / Cancer Biology or equivalent from a recognized University
Preferred Qualification
Strong publication record as first and corresponding author in peer-reviewed international journals in tumour cell biology and translational cancer research
