NCPOR JRF Advt 07 Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is engaging Junior Research Fellows for the Deep Ocean Mission project. The work spans marine geology, physical oceanography and marine chemistry, with each post code linked to a defined research stream. This is a project-mode research opportunity at NCPOR's Goa centre rather than a regular cadre appointment.

The fellows will support studies of mid-ocean ridge hydrothermal systems, ocean-atmosphere interaction and seawater chemistry. The three routes share the national-test condition but need different subject backgrounds, so you should match your degree and research tools to the correct post code. A broad ocean-science profile does not automatically qualify you for every code.

Posts and Disciplines

• JRF-01 — Marine Geology and Geophysics: research on hydrothermal venting and mineralisation at mid-ocean ridges, including geological or geophysical data analysis.
• JRF-02 — Oceanography and Atmospheric Science: work on ocean-atmosphere interactions, circulation dynamics and hydrographic characteristics, with numerical or observational data.
• JRF-03 — Marine Chemistry and Environmental Science: chemical-oceanography work involving seawater composition, nutrients, dissolved gases, trace metals and isotope-related analysis.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The initial assignment is for one year. NCPOR may shorten or extend it according to performance and project needs.
• Project status: Fellows are not treated as regular NCPOR employees and cannot claim automatic absorption or regularisation.
• Qualification timing: Experience is counted only after you obtained the essential academic qualification.
• Reservation proof: An OBC applicant claiming the reserved place must produce a valid 2026-27 OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate from the competent authority.
• Interview choice: You may attend in person or request the online mode described in the notice. The document deadline for online participation comes before the interview day.
• Travel: NCPOR does not pay TA or DA for attending the interview.
• Recruitment discretion: The Director may cancel the process at any stage without assigning a reason.

Application Submission Notes

For an online interview, send the prescribed application and supporting records through the notice's stated channel before its earlier document cutoff. Check that your subject, national-test proof and chosen JRF code are clear in the application; incomplete evidence can prevent shortlisting.

For the walk-in route at NCPOR, Headland Sada, Vasco-da-Gama, Goa, registration is open from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Candidates arriving after that window cannot attend. Carry the prescribed form and the originals and copies requested in the official advertisement.
