IITGN Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is recruiting a Project Scientist for its Electrical Engineering department under Prof. Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra. The position belongs to the Silicon and Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Research and Training Hub (SAMARTH), linking advanced semiconductor research with the training activity planned through the project. This is a temporary research appointment, so it suits someone who wants focused experience in an institute-led technology programme rather than a regular institute cadre post. The academic route is flexible: the notice recognises both doctoral preparation and a postgraduate engineering or science route backed by relevant professional experience.

The project setting gives the role a clear electronics and materials focus. Your application should make the connection between your education, research or industry work and the technical scope of SAMARTH easy to understand. IITGN also asks applicants to explain how the position fits their longer-term goals, so a generic application will be less useful than one built around your actual projects, tools and technical contributions.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Appointment term: The initial engagement is for one year and may be extended when your performance is satisfactory. The notice therefore leaves room for continuity, but any further term depends on how your work is assessed.
  • Temporary position: This opening is tied to sponsored research activity and is not described as a regular IITGN appointment. You should treat it as project experience with a defined initial term.
  • Shortlisting: Meeting the stated minimum does not guarantee that you will be called; the institute may use a higher cutoff when applications are strong. A complete record of relevant work will help the screening team assess your fit.
  • Institute discretion: IITGN may decide not to fill the position in this round, and it may choose whether to call an applicant for a selection test. The notice does not promise a call merely because an application is complete.
  • Pay placement: The amount offered within the notified consolidated range depends on the qualification profile assessed by the institute. Your education and relevant experience therefore matter to the final placement within that range.

Application Submission Notes

The online application must include a clear, updated CV covering degrees, institutions, graduation years, grades, relevant academic or industry projects, technical tools and professional experience. You can also include publications, patents, open-source work, reports, awards, scholarships and certifications when they genuinely support your fit for the role. Keep each entry specific enough for the screening team to understand what you worked on and which tools or methods you used.

IITGN also asks for a one-to-two-page Statement of Purpose. Use it to connect your motivation, earlier experience, technical strengths and research interests with the SAMARTH project and your career plans; the notice expects this explanation as part of the application rather than as an optional note. The strongest version will connect evidence from your CV with the contribution you hope to make in this research setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plan research activities connected with silicon and advanced semiconductor manufacturing
  • Run technical studies and experiments using relevant electronics or materials methods
  • Analyse research results and keep clear technical records
  • Prepare project reports, presentations, and research documentation
  • Coordinate research tasks with the principal investigator and project team
  • Support training and knowledge-sharing work carried out under the SAMARTH hub
  • Follow institute laboratory, equipment, and research-safety procedures
