IIEST Shibpur, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has invited applications and nominations for 20 Professor of Practice positions, with one post in each of its 20 academic units. This role was introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and UGC guidelines to bring seasoned industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and policy experts into the classroom and strengthen ties between industry and academia. A formal academic degree is not compulsory for this post if you have exemplary professional achievements — a rare chance for senior professionals to contribute to teaching, research, and mentorship without needing a PhD.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: A formal academic degree is not compulsory if you have exemplary professional practice in your field.
• Experience: You need at least 20 years of professional experience in your sector, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position (for example, Executive Director, CEO, or President).
• Who should apply: Distinguished industry leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, policymakers, and experts of national or international repute who stay current with the latest technology trends and best practices in their field.
• Not open to: As per the notification, this role is meant for professionals from industry — it is not intended for candidates already in a regular teaching position.
• Tenure: Your initial engagement will be for up to 1 year, renewed based on a performance review. Total tenure at the institute cannot exceed 3 years (extendable to 4 years in exceptional cases), and cannot continue past you turning 70 years old.

Age Limit

• Your total engagement, including any extension, cannot continue beyond the age of 70 years, whichever comes earlier.

Salary

• If your engagement is not funded by an industry partner, you will get a consolidated payment of Rs. 1,00,000 per month on an honorary basis.
• If an industry partner funds your engagement, your pay will be mutually agreed between you and the funding organisation.
