Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) Technician (Bench Chemist) Recruitment 2026 - 11 Posts

BTSC has released a notification for 11 Technician (Bench Chemist) posts under the Technician sub-cadre of the Bihar Drug Control Laboratory, Health Department, Government of Bihar. These are regular government posts open to Indian citizens, though reservation benefits are limited to candidates who are permanent residents of Bihar. Out of the 11 posts, 5 are unreserved, and the rest are reserved for EWS, SC, EBC and BC candidates as per Bihar's reservation policy, with a further 35% horizontal reservation for Bihar-domicile women within each category. Once you select your reservation category during registration, it cannot be changed later, so double-check your documents before applying. If you are a pharmacy graduate with lab experience in drug analysis, this is a good opportunity to get into a stable state government job.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need a D.Pharma or B.Pharma degree from a recognized university.
  • Experience: You must also have 6 months of work experience in the testing and analysis of drugs — this applies to both D.Pharma and B.Pharma qualification holders and is compulsory for all applicants. This experience certificate will be checked at the document verification stage.
  • Domicile: Reservation benefits are available only to candidates with permanent residence in Bihar. Candidates from outside Bihar can still apply under the unreserved category but must score at least the general category cutoff.
  • PwBD Candidates: Visually Handicapped (VH), Hearing Handicapped (HH), Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) and Multiple Handicapped (MH) candidates can apply under the disability quota as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017.

  • Age Relaxation: PwBD candidates get 10 years relaxation. Regular Bihar government employees with 3 years of continuous service get 5 years relaxation. Candidates with contractual experience in Bihar government/non-private laboratories get relaxation equal to their years of contract service, up to the maximum age limit, calculated as on 01 August 2026.
  • Only one age relaxation clause can be claimed at a time — you cannot combine multiple relaxations.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a starting salary of Rs. 29,200 per month under Pay Level-5 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix (as revised by the Bihar government).
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Bihar government rules.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in these stages:

  1. Written Competitive Exam (Computer Based Test): 100 objective MCQs for 400 marks in Hindi and English. You get 2 hours to complete it. Each correct answer gets 4 marks and each wrong answer costs you 1 mark (negative marking). This exam carries 75 out of 100 merit marks (your percentage score is multiplied by 0.75). The detailed syllabus will be published separately on the Commission's website by the concerned department.
  2. Work Experience Marks: Up to 25 marks based on prior contractual work experience in a Bihar government or non-private laboratory, at 5 marks per year of satisfactory service (pro-rated for partial years using a 365-day divisor).
  3. Document Verification: Candidates who qualify based on the merit list (written exam + experience marks) are called for document verification, where you must produce original certificates matching everything you uploaded online.

Minimum qualifying marks in the written exam: General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC/ST/Women/PwBD 32%. Candidates from outside Bihar must score at least 40% (General category cutoff) regardless of their category.
