Wildlife Institute of India (WII), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, has released notification Advt. No. WII/ADVT. 2/RP-CELL/April, 2026 for 20 temporary project positions across various research projects. These positions cover Project Manager, Project Scientist-I, Principal Project Associate, Senior Project Associate, Project Associate-I and II, working on projects related to wildlife conservation, aquatic ecology, ecotoxicology, biodiversity assessment, and World Heritage Site nominations. The roles are based primarily at Dehradun with field work across India.

Who Can Apply?
For Project Manager (Training & Capacity):
- You need a Doctoral Degree in Natural Sciences (Wildlife Science, Zoology, Ecology, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences, Geoinformatics, Life Sciences, Agricultural or Forestry Sciences) OR Master's in Engineering & Technology OR Master's in Veterinary Sciences
- Desirable: At least 5 years of training and capacity building experience
For Project Scientist-I posts:
- Doctoral Degree in Natural Sciences from a recognised university OR Master's Degree in Engineering & Technology OR Master's Degree in Veterinary Sciences
For Principal Project Associate (Aquatic Ecology):
- 4-year Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Natural Sciences + 8 years experience in R&D, OR Bachelor's in Veterinary Sciences + 8 years experience, OR Bachelor's in Engineering + 8 years experience, OR Master's in Engineering + 6 years experience, OR Doctoral Degree in Science/Engineering + 4 years experience
For Senior Project Associate (Ecotoxicology):
- 4-year Bachelor's or Master's in Natural Sciences + 4 years experience, OR Master's in Engineering + 2 years experience, OR Doctoral Degree in Science/Engineering
For Project Associate-II posts:
- 4-year Bachelor's or Master's in Natural Sciences + 2 years experience, OR Bachelor's in Veterinary or Engineering + 2 years experience
For Project Associate-I posts:

Age Limit
- Project Manager: Maximum 50 years
- Project Scientist-I (Kanger Valley & Habitat Monitoring): Maximum 45 years
- Principal Project Associate & Senior Project Associate: Maximum 40 years
- All other positions (Project Scientist, Project Associate-I and II): Maximum 35 years
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates up to 5 years, OBC candidates up to 3 years
Salary
- Project Manager: Rs. 1,20,000 per month (consolidated)
- Project Scientist-I: Rs. 77,000 + HRA per month
- Principal Project Associate: Rs. 67,000 + HRA per month
- Senior Project Associate: Rs. 57,000 + HRA per month
- Project Associate-II: Rs. 42,000 + HRA (NET/GATE) or Rs. 33,000 + HRA (non-NET/GATE)
- Project Associate-I: Rs. 37,000 + HRA (NET/GATE) or Rs. 30,000 + HRA (non-NET/GATE)

Selection Process
The selection will be done in two stages:
- Shortlisting: Based on essential qualification, age limit, percentage of marks in Bachelor's/Master's, specialisation relevance, research experience, and publications. Top 10 shortlisted candidates per position will be called for interview.
- Online Interview: Conducted by a duly constituted Selection Committee. Scoring criteria varies by position category — Field/Lab Assistants and Project Associate-I are scored on marks and specialisation (50 marks total). Project Associate-II, Senior, Principal Project Associate, and Project Scientist positions are scored on NET (5 marks), Master's marks (25 marks), research/work experience (10 marks), and publications (10 marks).

Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys, sample collection, and laboratory analysis related to wildlife and aquatic habitat conservation
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and training materials for project deliverables
- Lead training and capacity building programmes for forest officials, students, and stakeholders
- Carry out literature reviews, data compilation, and analysis on conservation frameworks
- Assist in preparing nomination dossiers for World Heritage Sites and protected areas
- Maintain project records, databases, and documentation for monitoring and evaluation
- Organise meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement sessions
- Carry out tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator and project team
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree (4 years) in Natural Sciences, Engineering, or Veterinary Sciences from a recognised university or institute
Preferred Qualification
Master's or Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science, Ecology, Geoinformatics, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering with NET/GATE qualification
Required Skills
Field survey, data analysis, GIS tools, scientific writing, biodiversity databases, MS Office, technical report preparation

Salary & Compensation
Pay Scale
Consolidated monthly emoluments ranging from Rs. 30,000 (Project Associate-I non-NET) to Rs. 1,20,000 (Project Manager). HRA applicable to most positions.
Allowances
HRA (House Rent Allowance) applicable to Project Scientist, Project Associate, and Senior/Principal Project Associate positions. Project Manager is on consolidated pay without HRA.
