SCI Court Master Shorthand Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Supreme Court of India (SCI) is recruiting Court Masters (Shorthand) for its Registry in New Delhi by direct recruitment. It is a gazetted post, and the selected candidates are placed on a merit panel from which appointments are made. This drive is meant for experienced stenographers — you need several years of regular service as a Private Secretary, PA or Senior Stenographer in a government office, PSU or statutory body, along with fast English shorthand.

The vacancy figure is tentative. The Registry says the number of posts may change, and it can also restrict, enlarge or alter the selection process if needed.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Odd hours and holidays: Court Masters have to work at odd hours and on holidays, and you must sign an undertaking accepting this.
  • Panel, not a guaranteed job: being placed on the merit panel does not give you a right to appointment.
  • Experience cadre: only regular service as Private Secretary, Senior PA, PA or Senior Stenographer in Government, PSUs or statutory bodies counts.
  • Shortlisting ratios: after the objective test, candidates are called for the shorthand and typing tests in a 1:10 ratio to the vacancies, and for interview in a 1:3 ratio among those who clear all three tests.
  • Test venues: the objective test is held in 69 cities across India (you choose in order of preference, but the Registry can move you). The shorthand and typing tests are held in Delhi/NCR, and the interview is online or in person in Delhi.
  • Reservation: follows Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. Reserved-category candidates who qualify on relaxed standards are considered only against reserved vacancies.
  • Working candidates: you must show a No Objection Certificate from your employer at document verification. If you get a job during the process, inform the Recruitment Cell at recruitment.cell@sci.nic.in.
  • No travel allowance: no TA/DA is paid for the tests or interview, and requests to change the city, centre or date are not accepted.
  • False information: anyone using fake documents or false details is disqualified, can be prosecuted and is barred from future Registry jobs — even after confirmation in service.

Application Submission Notes

You can apply only online through the link that will be provided on www.sci.gov.in; postal forms are not accepted. The fee is paid online through the UCO Bank payment gateway. You do not need to post the printout — keep it and your application number, which you need to download the admit card.

If you submit more than one form, only the last one counts. Your name, parents' names and date of birth must match your Class 10 certificate, the category you choose cannot be changed later, and you should keep your e-mail and mobile number active because test dates are sent by SMS and e-mail.
