UPSC Geo-Scientist Recruitment 2027: Overview

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is conducting the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination for technical posts in two national earth-science organisations. Geological Survey of India works under the Ministry of Mines, while Central Ground Water Board works under the Ministry of Jal Shakti's Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. Post-wise Duties

Geologist and Assistant Geologist

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial appointment: the notice states that appointments are made on a temporary basis at first, even though these are direct-recruitment government service posts.
• Service preference: you must list at least one participating service for which you are qualified; UPSC will not consider you for a service omitted from your preference order.
• Stream restriction: candidates with certain common geoscience qualifications may choose geology or geophysics, but can apply under only one of those streams.
• Field suitability: the interview assesses your ability to adapt to field life, and final appointment remains subject to the physical and medical standards of the allocated service.
