Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Deputy Director General Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a vacancy circular inviting applications for one Deputy Director General post at its Regional Office in Chandigarh. This senior leadership role is filled purely on deputation (Foreign Service terms) for a period of up to five years, so private candidates outside government service cannot apply. Only serving government, PSU, or autonomous body officers with at least five years of service who meet the pay-level criteria are eligible, and preference goes to officers already holding an analogous post in a similar organisation. UIDAI was set up under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, to develop the policy, procedures and systems for issuing Aadhaar numbers and authenticating them, so this role puts you at the centre of one of India's largest digital identity programmes.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification/Cadre: You should be an officer from the Central Government holding an analogous post on regular basis in your parent cadre or department, OR have 4 years of regular service in Pay Matrix Level 13 (Rs. 1,23,100 - 2,15,900) or above.
  • Alternative route: Officers from a State/UT Government, Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), or Autonomous Organisation holding a regular post in the corresponding grade with the required experience can also apply.
  • Minimum service: You need at least five years of government service, and your minimum residual service should be 3 years as on the closing date for applications.
  • Preferred experience: Experience in monitoring and implementing large-scale projects with multiple ecosystem partners; work in Administration, Legal, Establishment, HR, Finance, Accounts, Budgeting, Vigilance, Procurement or Planning; and exposure to e-Governance and ICT-related projects will be an advantage.
  • Private candidates and non-government applicants are not eligible for this post since it is filled purely on deputation.

Age Limit

  • You should be below 56 years old as on the closing date for applications, i.e. 7 September 2026.
  • Your minimum residual service should be 3 years as on the closing date, since the deputation period runs for up to 5 years.

Salary

  • The post carries a salary of Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200 per month under Pay Level 14 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • You will also get Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance or accommodation, Transport Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, and medical benefits as per UIDAI's own service regulations.
  • Officers of Director level and above, including this post, also get a vehicle facility for commuting.
  • If your pay structure is different from the Central Government (e.g. bank or PSU scale), UIDAI will match your pay to the nearest equivalent Level 14 grade using the conversion table in the circular.
  • You can continue using the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) facility available in your parent organisation, or you can opt for UIDAI's own Medical Reimbursement Scheme.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

This post is filled purely through deputation, so there is no written exam or interview process described in the circular. Selection works like this:

  1. Application Screening: UIDAI checks that your application, forwarded through proper channel, meets all the eligibility criteria listed above.
  2. Cadre Clearance Verification: Your parent department or cadre-controlling authority must clear you for deputation and confirm your APARs/ACRs for the last five years.
  3. Final Selection: UIDAI reviews all eligible, properly-forwarded applications and selects the officer for the post, giving preference to officers already holding an analogous post in their parent organisation.

How to Apply

  1. Download the application form (Annexure I) and the forwarding certificate format (Annexure II) from uidai.gov.in.
  2. Fill in the application form completely with your service and experience details.
  3. Get your application certified by your cadre-controlling authority, along with cadre clearance.
