Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), Malpe, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, has released a notification (Ref No. UCSL/IMS/HR/VN/F/11-AMs/KCN/92, dated 11 August 2026) for 8 Assistant Manager posts split between Electrical and Mechanical disciplines. These are five-year contract positions with posting at UCSL Kochi, Malpe, or any other project site in India or abroad as required by the company. Engineers with relevant shipbuilding, marine, or port industry experience should apply.

UCSL is engaged in shipbuilding and repair work, and the appointment carries an obligation to serve in any department of UCSL, on-board ships, or at any of its units, work sites, or projects anywhere in India or abroad. UCSL reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of vacancies, or to cancel the recruitment process altogether, based on its requirements. Because UCSL is engaged in hazardous shipyard operations, candidates with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) have not been included in this recruitment.

Who Can Apply?

For Assistant Manager (Electrical):

• Qualification: Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Electronics & Communication Engineering with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in Electrical, Electrical Design, Quality Control, Outfitting, or Utility & Maintenance work in shipbuilding, ship repair, marine, port, or engineering companies (government or private).
• Desirable: Experience with ERP/SAP or a computerized environment, and knowledge of QMS/ISO/IMS documentation.

For Assistant Manager (Mechanical):

• Qualification: Degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Naval Architecture Engineering with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in Quality Control, Machinery, Hull Fabrication, Hull Erection, Piping, Installation & Commissioning, Outfitting, or Accommodation Outfitting in shipbuilding, ship repair, marine, port, or engineering companies.
• Desirable: Experience with ERP/SAP or a computerized environment, and knowledge of QMS/ISO/IMS documentation.

Your post-qualification experience is counted only from the date you passed the required qualification. Experience gained through paid training, including Apprenticeship Training under the Apprentices Act, is also counted. Certificates from companies registered under the Companies Act (or foreign companies of equivalent status) are required to support your experience claims during shortlisting.

Age Limit

• You should not be older than 30 years as on 1 September 2026 (born on or after 2 September 1996).
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation for posts reserved for them. Ex-servicemen get relaxation as per Government of India rules.
• The total age after applying all relaxations cannot exceed 40 years.

Salary

• You will get a consolidated monthly pay starting at Rs. 49,500 in the 1st year, rising to Rs. 50,700 (2nd year), Rs. 51,940 (3rd year), Rs. 53,220 (4th year), and Rs. 54,540 in the 5th year of the contract.

Selection Process

Selection happens in these stages:

1. Objective Type Test: 50 MCQs for 50 marks in 60 minutes — 10 marks General Knowledge and 40 marks subject-based. No negative marking. You need 50% marks to qualify (General/EWS) or 40% marks (SC/ST, for reserved vacancies).
2. Certificate Verification: Shortlisted candidates must produce original certificates of age, qualification, experience, and category.
3. Personal Interview and PowerPoint Presentation: The interview carries 20 marks and the PowerPoint presentation (to assess work experience) carries 30 marks.
4. Medical Examination: Selected candidates must clear a medical fitness test at UCSL-prescribed hospitals.

Final selection is based on the total of 100 marks — 50 (test) + 20 (interview) + 30 (PowerPoint presentation). A rank list will be prepared for each post and will stay valid for up to 18 months from the date the last candidate reports for duty, and may be used to fill future vacancies during that period. No TA/DA is paid for attending any stage of the selection process, and call letters are issued only by email or through the UCSL/CSL websites — not by post.
