The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Balloon Facility, Hyderabad — a national centre of the Government of India for nuclear science and mathematics — has released Advertisement No. 02/2026 for 3 posts. These include 2 Scientific Assistant-B posts (one EWS, one Unreserved) and 1 Driver-B post (Unreserved). The posts are based at the Balloon Facility in Hyderabad and selected candidates may be involved in balloon flights and scientific instrumentation work.

Who Can Apply?

Scientific Assistant-B (Pay Level 6)

• Full-time Diploma in Engineering in Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Electronics & Instrumentation / Industrial Electronics with at least 60% marks, OR
• Full-time B.Sc in Electronics from a recognised university/institute with at least 60% marks.
• Knowledge of personal computers and their applications.
• 0-2 years' experience in the relevant field.
• Desirable: good communication skills, telecommunication engineering experience, programming in C/C++/Python, and knowledge of PCB designing, microcontrollers and FPGA.

Driver-B (Pay Level 2)

• SSC (10th) or equivalent from a Central/State board.
• Valid licence for driving heavy vehicles such as trucks/buses and towing trailers.
• Minimum 3 years of accident-free experience driving heavy/passenger motor vehicles in large cities.
• Desirable: minor repair and troubleshooting skills, First Aid certificate, and knowledge of the local language.

Age Limit

• Scientific Assistant-B: Maximum 28 years.
• Driver-B: Maximum 30 years.
• Age is counted as on 1 January 2026.
• Age Relaxation: As per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen.

Salary

• Scientific Assistant-B: Pay Level 6, total monthly emoluments Rs. 73,020.
• Driver-B: Pay Level 2, total monthly emoluments Rs. 39,970.
• Selected candidates will be covered under the National Pension System (NPS).

Physical Standards (Driver-B only)

For Male Candidates

• Height: not less than 165 cm
• Chest: 80-85 cm
• Weight: as per medical standards for height and age
• Eyesight: minimum vision 6/6, naked-eye vision 6/9 for both eyes, with colour recognition

For Female Candidates

• Height: not less than 157 cm
• Weight: as per medical standards for height and age
• Eyesight: minimum vision 6/6, naked-eye vision 6/9 for both eyes, with colour recognition

Selection Process

1. Scientific Assistant-B: Written test and personal interview, or personal interview only.
2. Driver-B: Physical test and trade test.

The Institute may restrict the number of candidates called for the recruitment process based on qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed.

• Carry out daily upkeep and minor repairs of vehicles (Driver-B)
• Maintain log books and follow traffic rules during outstation duties
