Service Conditions and Caveats

• Independent Consultant status: You will not be RITES staff or an official — the engagement creates no employer-employee relationship, and there is no PF, ESI or gratuity.
• Tenure: Engagements run for about a year at a time and may be extended annually on the same project, based on a satisfactory performance review — no extension is given past age 65.
• Full-time and exclusive: Consultants appointed full-time cannot take up any other assignment during the engagement period.
• Police verification is mandatory — a negative report ends the contract immediately.
• Retired government servants can be engaged only for specific tasks and duration, and not against regular vacant posts, as per Rule 177 of GFR 2017.
• No TA/DA for joining, completing the assignment, or attending the interview.
• Preference goes to Retired or Voluntarily Retired IRSSE Officers of Indian Railways for the design-expert roles.
