The Puducherry Examining Authority is hiring 8 Sub-Inspectors of Police (Male) in the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) of the Police Department, UT of Puducherry. The Puducherry Examining Authority, Chief Secretariat, Government of Puducherry has released an Addendum Notification to Advertisement No.01/CGL/PEA/2026 for direct recruitment of 8 Sub-Inspectors of Police (Male) in the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) under the Police Department. This recruitment is part of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026 and is open only to natives or 5-year residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Male graduates between 20 and 27 years can apply.

Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must hold a Graduation or equivalent degree from a recognised university.
- Domicile: You must be a native or continuous resident of UT of Puducherry for the last 5 years immediately preceding the date of notification. You will need a residence certificate issued by the Revenue Authority.
- Gender: Only male candidates can apply for this post.
- Physical Standards: You must pass the prescribed Physical Standards Test, Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Test.
- PwBD: This post is exempted from PwBD reservation, so Persons with Benchmark Disabilities are not eligible.
Age Limit
- You should be between 20 and 27 years as on 1 June 2026 (the closing date of online application).

Salary
- You will be paid as per Pay Matrix Level 6, which means Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month.
- You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.
- The post is classified as Group-B (Non-Gazetted).
Physical Standards
Physical Standards Test (PST)
- Height: Not less than 167 cms
- Chest: 81-86 cms (with minimum 5 cms expansion)
- Weight: BMI between 18.50 and 29.9 kg/m²
Physical Endurance Test (PET)
- Stage I - 100 metres run: Within 15 seconds
- Stage II - Long Jump: 3.80 metres
- Stage III - High Jump: 1.20 metres
- Stage IV - 800 metres run: Within 2 minutes 50 seconds
Each stage is qualifying. Three chances will be given to qualify long jump and high jump. Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET if they meet the physical measurements.
Medical Standards
- Eyesight: Normal — both eyes 6/6 distant vision and J1 near vision. Free from colour blindness.
- Hearing: Free from any disability
- Defects: Free from defects or deformity of limbs. Not flat-footed, knocked-knees or bowed legs.
- Disease: Free from hernia, piles, respiratory disease, diabetes or any disease that affects the work of SI of Police (Male) IRBn.
Selection Process
The selection will be done in four stages:
- Physical Standards Test (PST): Height, chest and BMI checked first.
- Physical Endurance Test (PET): Four qualifying events — 100m run, long jump, high jump, 800m run.
- Written Competitive Examination (CGL Examination 2026): Only candidates qualifying PST and PET appear. Two OMR-based papers, each with 100 questions for 100 marks in 2 hours. Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer.
- Medical Examination: Final fitness check.
Minimum qualifying marks: UR: 30%, OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM/BT/EWS: 25%, SC/ST/PwBD/XSM: 20%.
Weightage: Paper-I (Common) — 25%, Paper-II B (Specific) — 75%.

Responsibilities
- Maintain law and order in the assigned area as part of the India Reserve Battalion
- Patrol designated areas and respond to emergency and special law-and-order duties
- Lead and supervise constables in field operations and routine policing tasks
- Assist senior officers in criminal investigations and intelligence collection
- Manage crowd control and security duties during public events and VIP movements
- Undergo Basic Training for one year and Phase-II Training as per IRBn raising guidelines
- Prepare daily duty reports and maintain station records
- Be ready to be posted anywhere in India as required by the service

Exam Pattern
The Written Competitive Examination is the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026. You will have to take two OMR-based papers, each carrying 100 questions for 100 marks in 2 hours.

Language of Paper-I and Paper-IIA: Bilingual — English and Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam. Paper-IIB will be in English only.
