Jharkhand Home Guard Vahini, Deoghar (Home Department, Government of Jharkhand) has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 for fresh enrolment of 772 Home Guards in Deoghar district. The vacancies are split into 634 Rural Home Guards and 138 Urban Home Guards. 50% of the posts in both rural and urban categories are reserved for women. Home Guard is a volunteer organisation — this is not a regular salaried government job, but you will receive a daily allowance for the days you are called on duty. Women Reservation: 50% of total posts in both categories are reserved for women candidates. Within the women quota, 5% posts are reserved for qualified divorced / abandoned / widow women. If such candidates are not available, those 5% seats will go to general women candidates.

Who Can Apply?

For Rural Home Guard:

• Qualification: You must have passed at least Class 7th.
• Residence: You must be a permanent resident of the Deoghar district block from where you are applying.

For Urban Home Guard:

• Qualification: You must have passed at least Matriculation (10th class).
• Residence: You must be an ordinary resident of the urban area of Deoghar district.

Technical Skilled Urban Home Guard (Optional Category)

• You should be skilled in any technical field and currently working or self-employed in a related office.
• Eligible trades include: doctor, engineer, advocate, professor, nurse, computer operator, typist, licensed driver (HMV/LMV), cook, carpenter, mochi, dhobi, barber, electrician, gardener, plumber and similar.

Age Limit

• You should be between 19 and 40 years old as on 01 January 2026.
• Age relaxation will follow Jharkhand Government rules for reserved categories.

Salary

• Home Guard is a volunteer service, not a salaried government job.
• You will get a daily allowance fixed by the Jharkhand Government for every day you are called on duty.
• The current per-day rate is decided by the Home Department from time to time.

Physical Standards

For Male Candidates:

• Height: 162 cm (General/OBC/BC) or 157 cm (SC/ST)
• Chest: 79 cm (General/OBC/BC) or 76 cm (SC/ST)

For Female Candidates:

• Height: 148 cm (all categories)

Application Fee

• Application fee for all candidates: Rs. 200
• Payment mode: Online only through the official payment gateway during application.
• Your application will be submitted only after the fee is paid.

Selection Process

Selection will be done in three stages as per Home Department Notification No. 5442 dated 20-10-2014:

1. Physical Test (PET): Includes 1 mile run, high jump, long jump and shot put. Each event carries marks. For male rural/non-technical urban candidates the cut-off for 1 mile run is 6 minutes; for females it is 10 minutes.
2. Hindi Writing Ability Test: Total 100 marks, qualifying marks 30. Standard is 7th class level for rural candidates and 10th class level for urban candidates.
3. Technical Proficiency Test (Urban Technical category only): Total 100 marks, qualifying marks 30.

After all tests, a merit list is prepared. Selected candidates undergo medical examination, police character verification and basic Home Guard training before final enrolment. Extra marks are given to candidates who have won prizes in National/State level sports (up to 6 marks for National Gold, 3 marks for State Gold).

How to Apply

1. Go to the application portal hosted by JAP-IT (link to be published on the official Deoghar district website and local newspapers).
2. Fill the online application form for either Rural or Urban Home Guard separately.
3. Upload a recent colour photograph, signature, online residence certificate and caste certificate.
4. Enter details of any one ID — Aadhaar / Voter ID / Driving Licence / PAN.
5. Pay the application fee of Rs. 200 online through the payment gateway.
6. Submit the form and keep a printout of the acknowledgement.

Note: Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple applications will lead to rejection of all your forms.
