Punjab National Bank (PNB) Local Bank Officer (LBO) Recruitment 2026 - 545 Posts

Punjab National Bank (PNB) is one of India's largest government-owned banks, serving customers across the country through thousands of branches. It has released a notification for 545 Local Bank Officer posts in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I), spread across 17 states including Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Gujarat. The Local Bank Officer scheme is designed to place officers in their own state or region so they can serve local customers better, which is why candidates can apply for only one state based on their eligibility, domicile, and local language proficiency. This is a good opportunity for graduates with prior banking experience who want a stable officer-level bank job with a posting close to home, rather than a transferable pan-India posting. As a Local Bank Officer, you will typically be posted at a branch within your chosen state for a set minimum tenure before you become eligible for inter-state transfers, which makes this recruitment especially attractive if you want to build your banking career near your hometown. Officer-level roles like LBO also carry faster promotion potential compared to clerical cadre positions, since you start directly in the JMGS-I scale.

Vacancy Breakdown by State

  • Assam: 85 posts
  • West Bengal: 80 posts
  • Karnataka: 78 posts
  • Gujarat: 77 posts
  • Maharashtra: 67 posts
  • Tamil Nadu: 51 posts
  • Telangana: 41 posts
  • Tripura: 18 posts
  • Jammu & Kashmir: 9 posts
  • Meghalaya: 8 posts
  • Manipur: 6 posts
  • Nagaland: 5 posts
  • Mizoram: 5 posts
  • Sikkim: 5 posts
  • Andhra Pradesh: 4 posts
  • Arunachal Pradesh: 4 posts
  • Ladakh: 2 posts

You can apply for only one state — choose the state where you meet the local language and domicile requirements. Notice that Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Gujarat together account for over 320 of the 545 posts, so candidates eligible for these states have the widest opportunity in this drive.

Your final selection depends on your combined score in the written exam and interview, along with clearing the language test.
