Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Maharatna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, is recruiting Engineer Trainees through GATE 2026. POWERGRID is one of the world's largest power transmission utilities, operating around 1,80,849 circuit km of transmission lines and 286 sub-stations. Who Can Apply?

  • GATE 2026 Score: You must have appeared in and qualified the corresponding GATE 2026 paper (EE/EC/CE/CS).
  • Degree: Full-time B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg.) from a recognized university or institute in the relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum Marks: You need at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate across all semesters.
  • Final Year Students: If you expect your final results by 14 August 2026, you can still apply provided you have 60% marks up to the pre-final examination.

  • Electrical: Electrical / Electrical (Power) / Electrical and Electronics / Power Systems Engineering / Power Engineering (Electrical)
  • Electronics: Electronics / Electronics and Communication / Electronics and Telecommunication / Electronics and Electrical / Communication and Telecommunication Engineering

Only Indian Nationals of age 18 years or above are eligible. Qualification must be from a recognized institution in India.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 28 years as on 31 December 2025.
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation (for reserved category posts)
  • SC/ST: 5 years relaxation (for reserved category posts)
  • PwBD (UR/EWS): 10 years relaxation
  • PwBD + OBC(NCL): 13 years relaxation
  • PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years relaxation
  • Ex-Servicemen / Victims of Riots: As per Government of India directives

Salary

  • During Training (1 year): Basic Pay of Rs. 40,000 per month in the pay scale of Rs. 40,000 - 3% - 1,40,000 (IDA pattern), plus DA, HRA, and Perks at 12% of basic pay.
  • CTC During Training: Approximately Rs. 11.00 lakhs per annum.
  • After Training (E2 Scale): Basic Pay of Rs. 50,000 per month in the pay scale of Rs. 50,000 - 3% - 1,60,000 (IDA pattern).
  • CTC After Training: Approximately Rs. 22.50 lakhs per annum.
  • Benefits Include: Dearness Allowance, Performance Related Pay, Company Leased Accommodation or HRA, conveyance reimbursement, laptop facility, digital services reimbursement, uniform, PF, Gratuity, Pension, Leave Encashment, Group Insurance, and Group Personal Accident Insurance.

Selection Process

Your selection will be based on three stages with the following weightage:

  1. GATE 2026 Score (85% weightage): Your normalized marks out of 100 in the corresponding GATE 2026 paper will be considered. Only GATE 2026 scores are valid — GATE 2025 or earlier scores will not be accepted.
  2. Group Discussion (3% weightage): Shortlisted candidates will appear for GD. There are no qualifying marks for GD, but it contributes to your final score. You can appear in Hindi or English.
  3. Personal Interview (12% weightage): You must qualify the interview with minimum marks — 40% for Unreserved/EWS and 30% for OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/PwBD (for posts reserved for the respective category). You can appear in Hindi or English.

Final Score = GATE Marks (85%) + GD Marks (3%) + Interview Marks (12%) = 100%

Candidates shortlisted for GD and Interview may also undergo a psychometric assessment. A pre-employment medical examination is mandatory before appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Handle planning, design, and execution of power transmission line projects across India
  • Monitor operation and maintenance of high-voltage sub-stations and transmission systems
  • Work on commissioning and testing of electrical, electronic, and communication equipment
  • Prepare technical reports, project schedules, and cost estimates for new transmission lines
  • Assist senior engineers in coordinating with contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies
  • Follow safety protocols and environmental standards at all project sites
  • Manage computer networks, SCADA systems, or civil structures based on your discipline
